ABSTRACT
This project effort was undertaken to examine the impact of child abuse in our society as a whole and to propose potential solutions to the problem. The investigation showed several sorts of child abuse perpetrated on children in Edo State by parents, teachers, and guidance.
Some of the abuse and repercussions were attributed to poverty, ignorance, and flaws in child protection, while others were deemed intentional. The study’s population consists of youngsters from Edo State. A total of 100 questionnaires were utilised to collect data, and the analyses were provided in tables one through twenty, with total scores used to analyse the data.
It was discovered that youngsters of school age are being expelled from school due to their parents’ incapacity to instruct them. Some recommendations were made based on the findings of the researchers.

INTRODUCTION
THE STUDY’S HISTORY
Child abuse is also known as cruelty to children, and it is defined as the intentional inflicting of pain and suffering on children by physical, sexual, or emotional mistreatment. Prior to the term, child abuse only referred to physical mistreatment, but its application has since broadened to include, in addition to excessive physical violence, unjustifiable verbal abuse, failure to provide adequate shelter, nourishment, medical treatment, or emotional support.

Although most childhood diseases are comparable to adult diseases, there are some significant differences. For example, many specialised conditions, such as premature puberty, are unique to children. Others, such as kidney inflammation, are more common in youngsters and less common in adults.
At the same time, several disorders that affect adults are uncommon in youngsters. Essential hypertension (high blood pressure) is one of them.
Education is a tool for social, mental, and economic development that instills the necessary ideals and attitudes for proper development. kid abuse and its repercussions, defined as unjust treatment of a kid, disrupt this growth process.
It is a practise in which children are abused and denied fundamental needs at home and at school. The proverb “the child is the father of the man” acknowledges that the quality of today’s youngster determines the quality of tomorrow’s man.
The country’s current economic suffering is a preoccupation with child abuse. In this situation, the child’s education suffers as a result of the nation’s economic downturn. Many students work as part-time hawkers and pushers of wheelbarrows and car washes to help pay their school fees.
While others feed and clothe the family, the venture continues. As a result of this abusive condition, the cumulative impact of these behaviours may result in low academic achievement. The upshot of this child abuse and its ramifications is examination malpractice to compensate for academic inadequacies caused by a failure to attend school on a regular basis and devote time to class activities.
A child is thus defined as a boy or a girl of any age between infancy and adolescence. However, for legal reasons, a child is assigned a specific age range. According to Eigbe (2006), a child in Nigeria’s southern states is someone aged 0 to 14 years, and a kid in the northern states is someone aged 0 to 12 years.
Child abuse is defined as any sort of physical or mental injury or maltreatment of a child. The term of child abuse has been greatly enlarged to cover more than simply battered and sexually abused children. It includes any condition that is harmful to a child’s bodily or emotional health that has been caused by parents, teachers, or other carers, as well as classmates.
The circumstance should be one of intentional infliction of injuries other than unintentional ways, such as pain, harm from repercussions, hunger, and sexual abuse of a child growing up in an environment that threatens his or her survival.
Due to the challenges associated with the concept’s definition, as well as the cross-cultural global question of what is and is not child abuse, definitive understanding of the nature and scope of child abuse appears to be missing. In a Western context, child abuse refers to various mistreatments of children, particularly those relating to specific responsibilities such as “child labour” in the form of “farm work” or street hawking, which many children in African cultural content engage in as an acquired work rule in an extended family system.
Children are among the most vulnerable and vulnerable people. They should not be mistreated or maltreated in any manner because they are incapable of understanding the dangers they confront and the negative consequences poor treatment has on their future development.
Other children, particularly adolescents, as well as adults, are exposed to environmental risks that they actively desire, such as cigarette smoking and the use of alcohol and other substances. This article examines the range of diseases that affect children, with a focus on how the growing child’s unique characteristics and special components of his surroundings serve to influence the causes, impact, and treatment of certain diseases.
STSTEMENT OF THE PROBLEMS
Edo State has witnessed child abuse and its ramifications, as well as its devastating influence on child development. This becomes clear when considering the treatment placed on the children as a result of a shattered household and parental neglect. The following are some examples of child abuse and its consequences:
a. Inadequate care for children by parents and guardians in terms of basic needs provision.
b. Deprivation of certain children’s rights, both at home and at school.
c. Child hawking as a form of prostitution
d. Kidnapping or death by hawking of a child
a. Exposure to the risk of death or bodily harm as a result of kidnapping
f. Child exploitation in a variety of workplaces.
OBJECTIVE OF THE STUDY
The findings of this study will provide parents and guardians with an alternate method of child rearing in the face of child abuse. As the study’s findings become more widely recognised, there will be an increase in the number of youngsters enrolled in school.
The study will also assist educational personnel in understanding what constitutes child abuse and its consequences (such as working on the teacher’s farm during school hours, sex abuse by senior students, a lack of teaching materials, and so on), as well as where and how to begin combating it.
This research will also help the government understand the many types of child abuse that exist in Edo State and how to combat them.
IMPORTANCE OF THE STUDY
This simply states the study’s usefulness in terms of its implications in the study as well as its applicability to practise. When the people of Edo state read this report, they will realise that many pupils have dropped out of school as a result of the effects of child maltreatment in society.
This curriculum will also educate students on how to avoid child abuse when having children in their marriage.
SCOPE OF THE STUDY
This study is limited to the impact of child abuse on our society as a whole. Due to the researcher’s inability to go throughout Edo State, the researcher chose Oredo Local Government Area as a case study.

DEFINITION OF TERMS
During this study, the following terms were utilised.
A child is a young boy or girl who is not yet an adult.
Abuse: The incorrect or destructive use of something, such as a drug, food, or alcohol.
Child abuse is the crime of causing bodily, sexual, or emotional harm to a child.
Children are young people who are not yet adults.
Consequences are the outcomes of something.
Sexual abuse: Harmful physical action associated with sex.
Malnutrition is a bad state of health induced by a lack of nourishment.
Child labour: The usage of children in various occupations.
Deprivation: The state of not having enough of anything essential, such as food.
The fact of creating a great deal of damage and destruction is devastating.
Melted: To chastise someone in order to make them experience unfair treatment.
