RECOMMENDATION AND CONCLUSION
In conclusion, the findings of this study have prompted more research into the effects of insecurity and the school environment on children’ academic performance. For some time, students’ poor academic performance has been attributed to factors such as teacher ineffectiveness, students’ poor intelligent quotient, and students’ poor mental alertness, among others,
with little or no reference to the effect of school environment insecurity and its related factors. However, in the global search for the reasons for Nigerian secondary school students’ poor academic performance, educators and psychologists have discovered that many students perform poorly in their academic work not because they lack the mental ability to do well,
but because they have been affected by other factors. As a result, this study looked into the impact of school environment insecurity on the academic performance of secondary school pupils in Edo State.
Major findings revealed that insecurity of the school environment has a significant impact on the academic performance of secondary school students, while smoking of Indian hemp, hard drugs, student’s, cult, violent activities, kidnapping, armed robbery, parents confronting teachers, sexual harassment, rape, use of guns, and bullying of junior by senior students, among other factors, constitute insecurity of the school environment.
Students grow terrified of school as a result of the insecurity of the school environment, and as a result, they skip school and miss lectures, which eventually affects them during tests. Furthermore, they lose interest in school and intellectual pursuits, which leads to truancy and boys dropping out to pursue trading,
while girls leave out and settle for marriage. It was also discovered that there is a substantial difference in school environment insecurity between urban and rural schools, and that school environment insecurity has a significant effect on the academic performance of male and female students.
5.2 recommendations from The study
The researcher provided the following recommendations based on the study’s findings and conclusions:
To ensure that students maintain good academic performance in a welcoming school environment, school administration and teachers should impose strict dispute resolution procedures in all schools.
All school stakeholders should raise awareness in positive ways to ensure that gender differences do not affect conflict in primary schools.
The school administration should guarantee that the school’s rules and regulations are visible and published on school notice boards and some walls, as well as that these policies are explained throughout class.
The school community should regard each boy and girl as individuals to ensure that they reach their full potential and are not labelled as members of conflicting groups at school.
Teachers should encourage students to join and organise various recreation clubs in schools, such as debating clubs, science congresses, and sports groups, to guarantee that peer orientation has a beneficial influence on students.
The school community should use strategies to increase pupil conflict in school by instilling conflict in school in all children from the start.
The government, through the ministry of education, should organise more seminars and workshops in accordance with the new constitution and children’s rights to educate primary school teachers and principals on innovative ways to reduce conflict among students in school.
School administration should impose harsh conflict in school to ensure that students, particularly in mixed schools, follow school rules and regulations.
All stakeholders in public secondary schools should be involved in developing school rules and regulations to guarantee that students accept the established norms since they will feel they own them rather than having them imposed on them.
