EFFECT OF PUBLIC RELATIONS STRATEGIES ON THE PRODUCTIVITY

Chapter one

INTRODUCTION

1.1 Background of the Study.

Understanding the present and future requires knowledge of the past.

Many individuals assume that public relations has a history that, like other professions, follows a logical order of events.

In recent years, there have been similar studies on propaganda and public opinion. Professor Wilhelm Bank of the University of Vienna wrote “Examples of Public Opinion in World History” in 1930.

Public relations originated in ancient times. According to anthropology, individuals quickly recognised the importance of interrelationship, power, authority, and social control long before written history. There have always been leaders among their following.

Those interactions were first focused on religion and the authority of leaders in government. Folkways and conventions were more significant than individual opinions, although leaders were nonetheless concerned of their public image.

The three fundamental parts of public relations are, practically, associating with society, informing the public, teaching the people, and integrating the public. Of course, the means and methods for achieving these goals have changed as society has.

Men communicated first with signals, then with voice, and finally with writing. Following writing, several forms of mechanical services emerged as a result of such growth. They were also hired to express and form opinions.

Leaders in primitive societies used force, intimidation, and persuasion to dominate their followers.

When these methods failed, the leaders’ judgements were validated via tetem, taboo, and supernaturalism. As the twentieth century began, the phenomenal growth of industry, the decrease of rural opportunity, and rugged individualism gave place to modern public relations.

The industrialists created a revolution in public opinion, which prompted a need for reform. Discounted workers, farmers, and reformers created new public relations strategies that influenced political and social change, as well as industry as a whole.

This is a research project on the impact of public relations methods on productivity in manufacturing businesses, with Champion Breweries PLC, Uyo serving as a case study.

Champion Breweries Plc is responsible for the manufacture of Champion beer and Champ Malta. The firm was established in March 1979. The facility is located in the industrial layout on Aka Obot Idim Road in the outskirts of Uyo metropolis, Akwa Ibom State.

It has an installed capacity of 3,000 bottles of beer per hour. The facility is anticipated to work three eight-hour shifts per day for both beer and Malta.

Test testing began in 1979 with corporate questionnaires and direct interviews due to the expensive expense of transportation from the researcher’s school to the corporation, which the researcher employed as a case study.
