DESIGN AND IMPLEMENTATION OF LIGHTING SWITCHING CONTROL SYSTEM INTERFACE

Chapter One:

Introduction

1.1 Background of the Study

Traditionally, high control in home and workplace environments is achieved through switches (on/off), deals and sliders (dimmers), and, in some cases, motion sensors.

These controls can be integrated into the built environment, such as walls, or attached to lights that people place (desk lamps, bedside lights). This sometimes results in a mess of controls, each having its own placement, interaction style, and focus.

This project demonstrates how a PC may be utilised as a control signal production subsystem, capable of producing programmable control signals for power equipment.

According to early studies, using a PC for power management can cost up to 25% more than energy-star compliant alternatives. However, recent assessments have revealed greater rates, which were estimated for power management.

Switching control is an effective replacement for traditional pneumatic or electrochemical high voltage AC control. This technology is capable of not only controlling but also managing energy and performing system diagnostics.

The PC control has more accurate control by reducing the maintenance and calibration issues that pneumatic and mechanical systems have.

It also provides unique benefits such as subsystem coordination, optimal start, diversity analysis, and retrofit identification.

This idea begins with the requirement for a computer to light high-AC-rated bulbs. This instantly highlights the necessity for a PC interface to address the voltage and current discrepancy between the PC and the bulbs.

Second, the PC program’s control data consists of logic levels in serial format that are updated at high frequency. This means that the interface must grasp the communication protocol and convert it to the required parallel control signal.

Due to limited resources, the project will be simulated rather than actual. This system will provide more than simply manual on/off control. The system consists of two key components:

the output device and the input device. Behind the scenes, output devices control the lights by turning them on and off. Input devices include switches, such as buttons or sensors.

1.2 STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM.
– Uncertainty over whether a bulb is dead. – Issues with using one or two poles on a single switch. That is, each pole is equipped with a switch, which could incur significant costs.

Each pole has its own switch and location.  It takes up time because one must travel from one pole to the other. Just turn one or off the light.

1.3 PURPOSE OF STUDY
This professional reference focuses on using a serial interface hardware based on a microcontroller and max 232 serial converters. The high negative -15 volts and +15 volts of the serial RS232 interface are converted and programmed to match the CPC logic levels.

The system controls, manages energy, and provides diagnostics. Tracking all illumination actions, particularly bulbs. In areas where prepaid metres are used, it may help to minimise costs.

1.4 Significance of the Study

This technology is significant because it allows the light attached to the system to be turned on or off with the push of a button. This method allows you to effortlessly turn off or turn on the lights while lying in bed.

The technology is safe, so youngsters can turn off or on the light when their parents or guardians are not around. The system is really useful because it provides you with what you need at any moment. The system also tracks all activities (bulb).

1.5 SCOPE OF STUDY.
The research will focus on developing a computerised system that can turn on or off street lights while also controlling power.
The research will also concentrate on light bit microcontroller difficulties and discrete digital electronics in appliance control.

Intel controllers capable of completing applications are often assigned to switches, and timings are also discussed. It will be a system designed to maximise user efficiency and convenience.

1.6 Limitations of the Study
One of the most significant drawbacks of this work is financial. Due to a lack of funds, the system could not be brought to life. Inadequate electricity also hampered this project.

1.7 Definition of Terms

Electrochemical: define a mechanical device powered or controlled by electricity. Electrically powered machinery are related.
Pneumatics is the branch of physics that studies the mechanical properties of air and other gases.

Retrofit Identification: To change anything, like as a machine or a building, by incorporating newly produced parts or devices that were not available when the machine or building was built.

Diverse analysis: A range of things, such as opinion, colour, or style.
