Chapter One:

1.0 Introduction

A quiz is a basic tool used by students, lecturers, teachers, tutors, and others to assess intellectual aptitude and familiarise people with new inventions. According to the Oxford Dictionary, it is the act of cross-examining or probing a student in order to promote mental development and improve exposure.

However, quizzes span across all aspects of life; the act of interviewing, interrogating, and examining are all components of a quiz.
Creating and implementing an application that quizzes users or students on specific subjects or topics

using a menu-driven application in which users or students can select an aspect of their interest, and questions are loaded randomly from a database based on the number of question types and grades obtained.

In general, quizzes have always been designed to fit the needs of the quiz givers as well as the expected performance levels of the quiz candidates as a whole.

Giving a quiz that is far too simple for the applicants is likely to be a waste of time, inciting usually unwelcome candidate behaviour such as careless blunders or purposely selecting incorrect answers that could be the solutions to “trick questions”.

On the other hand, difficult questions create generally uninformative quiz results since applicants stop trying to answer the questions honestly and instead resort to guessing, response sets, and other forms of undesired behaviour.

However, tailoring a questionnaire to each individual candidate’s skill level has been considered as inappropriate and perhaps unfair. How can candidates be compared if they took separate quizzes?

1.1 Background of Study

Alfred Binet (1905) made substantial advances in the field of intelligent testing, and he was concerned with establishing the state of an individual (rather than a group) candidate; there was no issue of fairness in asking everyone to take the same quiz.

He then realised that by arranging the questions in terms of difficulty level, he could easily tailor the test to the individual’s current state. The test would begin at the same level for all candidates

and Binet would then proceed with a series of harder questions (from the lists of all questions), if the candidate passed, until the candidate failed repeatedly.

If the candidate failed the first item subset, Binet would administer increasingly easier item subsets until the candidate succeeded regularly. Based on this information, Binet estimated the candidate’s ability level. Binet’s approach is simple to implement using a computer.

The use of computers allows for additional advancements in adaptive testing, as well as more convenient administration and selection of single items.

1.2 Statement of Problem

It is therefore necessary to implement a procedure or a plan that will assist students in developing their mental knowledge, inefficiency in quiz application, inaccuracy in quiz grading, redundancy in record keeping, duplicate value in student parameter, and unsuitability of the current method of conducting quizzes in Greater Height Schools.

1.3 Aim of the Study

The goal of this project is to provide an adaptive quiz management system for larger height schools.

1.4 PURPOSE OF STUDY

This project aims to develop a novel adaptive quiz approach.

Efficient and fast report

To show the concept, ethics, methodology, and effectiveness of a computer-based quiz

To increase students’ mental awareness.

To boost students’ intelligence.

1.5 Significance of the Study

This comprises the capacity to complete quizzes without errors, which will improve students’ reasoning ability, intelligence, and mental fitness to handle questions at a rapid speed, as well as having an application that is adaptable to its users’ current circumstances.

1.6 SCOPE OF THE STUDY

This study will look at the use of computers in an adaptive quiz management system. It will handle participant registration, deletion, and updating information, a scoring board to display participant scores, a quiz area with questions and answers, a timer to warn participants of remaining time, and so on.

1.7 Limitations of the Study

This project will only study certain topics in mathematics and the English language.

1.8 Justification for the New System

The development of an adaptive quiz system will provide solutions to the problems connected with the manual system and even un-adaptive quiz system.

1.9 Definition of Terms

QUIZ: This is the act of interrogating the students for effective purposes.

INTERFACE: This is the medium of transaction via which services can be obtained or given.

PLATFORM: This is an interface that is intended to do a certain task related to the action for which it is being utilised.

TEST: The act of cross-examining a student’s/individual’s skill, confidence level, and ability to correctly answer a specific topic or issue.

ADAPTIVE: This refers to the application’s constant adaptation to the student’s responses to queries.

APPLICATION: Software created to do a specific task.
