EFFECT OF BIOLOGY PRACTICAL ACTIVITIES ON ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT OF SENIOR SECONDARY SCHOOL STUDENTS
ABSTRACT
This experiment was conducted to investigate the impact of biology practical activities on academic achievement of senior high school students in Enugu East Local Government Area, Enugu State. The first and second chapters provide background information for the investigation and a review of related literature, respectively.
The study’s background emphasised the use of practical activities in biology as a means of stimulating learners’ interest in the science subject under study. The need for biology teaching and learning in secondary schools was emphasised during the literature study.
The factors that influence the achievement of secondary school biology students were also examined, including inadequate laboratory facilities, teacher factors, student factors, and environmental factors.
The third chapter described the study’s area, population, data collecting, and analysis. The study was conducted in Enugu East Local Government Area of Enugu State, with all ss1 pupils from all ten (10) schools in the area.
The students were given tests, which were graded and scored based on their performance; the pre-test and post-test scores were used to calculate the mean and standard deviation.
The fourth chapter dealt with data presentation and analysis at four senior secondary schools in the Enugu East Local Government Area. And the study revealed that female students had higher mean scores than male students in both the pre-test and post-test. Chapter five included a discussion of the findings, educational implications, recommendations, and conclusions.
