Planning Implication of Housing Development in Saki West Local Government Area (LGA), Oyo State

Abstract

This quantitative survey research study used a structured questionnaire to collect data from 120 respondents in Saki West Local Government Area (LGA), Oyo State, Nigeria. The study sought to evaluate the issues of housing construction in light of fast population expansion and urbanisation.

The acquired data was analysed using SPSS27, with a focus on hypothesis testing via t-tests. The study’s findings provided several noteworthy insights. First, the study determined that the current housing situation in Saki West LGA has significant problems, especially related to infrastructural development. These issues stem from the expanding population and urbanisation, which put significant strain on available housing resources.

Furthermore, population increase has a significant impact on housing construction, taking into account environmental, social, and economic aspects. As the population grows, the necessity for long-term housing planning and development becomes increasingly important.

The study found that ideas and solutions for sustainable housing planning and development in Saki West LGA are critical to addressing the region’s acute housing concerns.

Finally, the research findings provide a thorough understanding of the housing development issues in Saki West LGA, as well as the implications for similar rising regions.

The results contradict the null hypothesis and emphasise the importance of community involvement, sustainable construction techniques, and affordable housing options.

The report advises adopting community-driven development strategies, community participation, and public-private partnerships to improve the housing situation in Saki West LGA.

This study is a great resource for policymakers, urban planners, and researchers looking to address housing difficulties in quickly increasing areas while emphasising the value of community involvement and sustainable development approaches.
