ABSTRACT
The effect of locally manufactured black soap and Dudu osun soap on dermatophytes isolated from barbering equipment was compared using the agar well diffusion method. Trichophyton rubrum (56.25%), Microsporum canis (28.13%), and Trichophyton mentagrophytes (15.63%) were the fungi isolated from the barbing equipment. The isolates were treated with Dudu Osun and black soap; the results showed that Trichophyton rubrum was resistant to 100% concentration of dudu soap but grew well at 200, 300, and 400 concentrations. It was sensitive to all concentrations of black soap. Trichophyton mentagrophytes was sensitive to 100% and 400% concentrations, but grew rapidly at 200% and 300% concentrations when treated with dudu soap. It demonstrated sensitivity at 200 and 300 concentrations, as well as rapid growth at 100 and 400 concentrations, for the black soap treatment. Microsporum canis was responsive to dudu soap treatment at 100% and grew rapidly at 200%, 300%, and 400% concentrations. During its treatment with black soap. It produced sensitive findings at 200% and 300%, but exhibited significant growth at 100% and 400%. All controls showed maximum growth. The results showed that the traditional black soap had a significant level of antimicrobial activity, resulting in larger zones of inhibition against dudu osun soap. As a result of this study, African black soap is advised for usage since it has the ability to treat hair and skin disorders.
Chapter one
Introduction
The term normal microbial flora or microbiota refers to the population of microorganisms that inhibit the skin and mucous membranes of healthy individuals. According to research, this normal flora, now known as normal microbiota, acts as a first line of defence against microbial pathogens, aids digestion, degrades toxins, and contributes to immune system maturation.
Shifts in the normal microbiota or promotion of inflammation by these commensals can result in inflammatory bowel illness (Tachibana, 1976).
The density and composition of the natural flora of the skin varies according to anatomical location. The composition of the normal flora is determined by a variety of factors, including genetics, sex, age, stress, nutrition, and food.
Human skin is prone to degenerative changes as a result of regular contact to the environment and the action of microbes. Several research were conducted to assess the normal flora of the skin. (Marhall et al., 1987).
Provided a thorough overview of the normal foot flora. He noted that the foot’s flora is identical to that observed in other skin sites. (Marples, 1992). I believe there are some variances between foot flora and other skin sites.
Black soap has anti-aging effects and can help decrease fine lines and wrinkles, resulting in youthful, smooth skin. Dark spots and blemishes are minimised, and the natural components effectively cleanse and deodorise. Black soap does not
