A COMPARATIVE STUDY OF MANAGEMENT PRACTICES PRIVATE AND PUBLIC SECONDARY SCHOOLS IN NIGERIA A CASE STUDY ORU WEST LGA IMO STATE
ABSTRACT
This study compared the management methods and production of private and public secondary schools in Imo State’s Oru West Local Government Area. The stratified random selection technique was used to choose twelve secondary schools in the area, four of which were private and eight of which were public.
Data was collected using a comparative study of management practices and output questionnaire (CSMPOQ) and the results of students from a sampled school. At the 0.05 alpha level of significance, the main hypothesis and two null hypotheses were tested. The data was analyzed using Pearson product moment correlation and the T-test.
The study discovered considerable disparities in management practices and productivity between private and public secondary schools.
Students in private secondary schools outperformed those in public schools. This study concluded that effective management techniques improve student academic performance.
It was found that in order to maximize production in private and public secondary schools, teachers should be properly compensated, motivated, recognized, and assisted to operate within unique conditions.
