THE IMPACT OF CHRISTIAN RELIGIOUS STUDIES ON THE MORALS OF SECONDARY SCHOOL STUDENTS IN NIGERIA A CASE STUDY OF UYO AKWA IBOM STATE
ABSTRACT
This study looks at the effect of Christian religion studies on the morals of secondary school pupils in Uyo. It discussed the societal value that Nigeria is afflicted with misplaced value. A questionnaire was used to collect data from selected secondary schools, and the results were excellent. In order to determine the degree of the association between Christian religion studies and moral values in secondary school in Akwa ibom state, the correlation co-efficient was used.
The findings revealed that there is moral degeneration in society, religion plays an important role in society, religious education promotes moral development, and religious education is treated lightly.
The study suggested, among other things, that in order for religious education to result in the desired moral development, the curriculum should be restructured to include the necessary ingredients, and the teacher should also model the moral standards he teaches.
We concluded that religious instruction has no substantial impact on the performance of secondary school students in Uyo. As a result of the findings, everyone should become truly interested in seeing a higher standard of moral behavior in both private and public affairs.
Finally, every citizen in our country should become concerned in maintaining high moral standards in both private and public life in order to portray a positive picture of the country.
