The Digital Library System (DLS) expands and integrates methodologies used in both traditional libraries and distributed information systems to produce high-end information systems, services, and institutions.

In this section, we will look at some of the components of digital libraries and discuss some of the latest advancements in this expanding sector.

Building a comprehensive digital library system will enable users to handle all stages of the information lifecycle. It is particularly important to simplify the authoring and producing process so that a larger public may participate by immediately uploading all forms of multimedia content to digital libraries.

Downstream access enables readers to benefit from computer-mediated communication throughout time and location. Ultimately, it is expected that knowledge will be shared, resulting in yet another cycle of discovery, writing, and utilisation facilitated by digital libraries.

1.1 Background of the Study

Times are changing quickly; we now live in the jet era, which is distinguished by rapid changes in technology, lifestyle, and values. This is, certainly, the age of information explosion.

The computer is one of the primary inventions that has accelerated the world’s technological growth. The computer is basically an electronic information processor that is fast altering how we obtain, organise, recall, access, analyse, synthesise, and use data.

The efficiency with which information is generated and conveyed determines a society’s advancement and the fulfilment of its people. Modern culture is information-driven, and information is now considered a universal requirement.

Furthermore, computers have changed the way individuals consume information. It has altered the rate of work done, the method for doing the task, and the relationships between those carrying and using the information.

Computers and libraries, on the other hand, are not immune to the use of computers in their daily operations, particularly when it comes to the volume of information generated. Libraries have evolved over the years, giving rise to digital libraries.

1.2 Statement of the Problem

There are various issues with traditional libraries. These shortcomings are detailed below.

Traditional library patrons must physically visit the library, which can often result in library overcrowding.

The library’s resources cannot be accessed at all hours of the day or night.

The library’s resources cannot be accessed simultaneously. It’s one at a time.

Traditional libraries have limited storage space.

1.3 General Objectives Of The Study

The proposed system The Digital Library System has general objectives that it aims to achieve. They are as follows.

To develop a range of access services for searching, browsing, and discovering materials.

To organise and index digital objectives for a variety of purposes, including cataloguing, finding aids, and databases.

The usage of a digital library reduces borrowing and acquisition.

Large data repositories are comprehensively stored and accessible to authorised users.

Lower the cost of operating a regular library.

1.4 SPECIFIC GOAL OF THE STUDY

The aims of this suggested system have been restricted. This is designed to ensure that the objectives are met. They are as follows.

Removal of Physical Boundaries: Ensure that users do not always have to physically visit the library, but can access library resources once linked to the server.

Round the Clock Availability: Users should be able to access information at any time.

Information Retrieval: To make it simple and convenient for the user to search the complete collection using any search word (title OR author’s name), hence providing user-friendly interfaces and clickable access to its resource.

Preservation and Conservation: Allow access to materials that would otherwise degrade from repeated use.

several Access: Ensure that the same resources can be used concurrently by several people.

Space: Capable of storing information digitally while requiring minimal physical space.
