ACCOUNTING RATION IN MEASURING BUSINESS PERFORMANCE (A STUDY OF UAC NIGERIA PLC)
Abstract
The study examines the use of financial ratios in breweries, food and beverage companies, with Guinness Nigeria Plc, Nigerian Breweries Ltd, Seven-Up Company Plc, Unilever Nigeria Plc, and UAC Plc serving as case studies. The significance of financial ratios stems from the fact that the firms affect the welfare of various interest groups and the general public.
They are thus interested in the fortunes of the firms, how well they have performed in the past, how well they are performing now, and the prospects of shareholders with managers running the companies.
The study’s data and information were gathered from annual reports of various companies, as well as the five-year financial summary of the case study companies, from which relevant ratios were computed and interpreted. These accounts served as the foundation for data presentation and analysis.
Due to the complexities of the research, the study was limited to internal comparisons within all of the companies. The study will serve as an effective guideline for both current and potential stakeholders, as well as the companies’ creditors, to be aware of the relationship between financial statements.
It is important to understand that it will serve as a reliable source of information or a reference to other researchers working on similar or related topics, as well as introduce management to the difficult issues that lie ahead of them.
