ABSTRAC T
This project examines the economic assessment of SAP on the Manufacturing Sub-Sector of Nigerian Economy.
The economic problems which the program seeks to redress among others are : the over dependence on oil , over valuation of naira , lack of selfreliance , growth and development, serious balance of payment disequilibrium, growing, government deficit budgeting, low productivity, industria l input dependence imports and stagflation etc .
Launched July, 1986, SAP aimed at solving the above problems a number of strategie s were employed. The measures adopted were monetary credit , fiscal , institutiona l etc . From the analysis of the available data on the assessment of impact of SAP on the economy with particula r reference to the manufacturing sub-sector, ther e
are some indications tha t SAP’s painful costs aside the program has made a littl e progress. At the end of the projec t a recommendation is made to replace the macroeconomic policy (SAP) because of its socia l consequencies and littl e
success so far made. Furthermore, if to go on with the SAP 7 points check list are recommended for checking SAP’s excesses and straightening it for greater achievements.
