Gender and inequality are inextricably linked. Gender norms in social impact and reinforce the various roles and behaviors of men and women, children and adults. Gender roles and behaviors diverge, resulting in power disparities where one gender gains influence at the expense of the other. As a result, in many countries, women are viewed as submissive to men and have a lesser social status, giving men more influence and decision-making power than women.
