AN EVALUATION OF THE ROLE OF INDUSTRIAL UNION IN MANAGING EMPLOYEE
Figures and abstract
Trade unions play an important role in protecting employees from any form of discrimination or harassment in the workplace. Employees must work in a pleasant environment. Many studies have been conducted in this field, but there has been little research in developing countries, particularly Botswana.
To fill this void, this study will investigate the role of trade unions in resolving labor-related disputes, with a focus on working conditions, salaries, and ‘fair treatment.’ Furthermore, the study will examine how members perceive their work and non-work experiences, as well as their belief in their trade unions, and whether the unions performed their duties in accordance with their expectations.
A cross-sectional survey was used in the study. The questionnaire was used to collect the information. The main finding demonstrated that economic factors such as changes in government policies are taken into account in the union’s operations.
Furthermore, the labor unions maintain their long-held beliefs.
Thus, working for the interests of its members rather than the society in which it operates; otherwise, it will not serve according to the expectations of its members, which may result in a decline in membership, as has occurred in some African countries.
