An In depth Study Of Lexical Borrowing From English To Hausa

Chapter one

1.0 Introduction.

The purpose of this project is to conduct an in-depth examination of lexical borrowing from English to Hausa. The concept of borrowing has been described and explained by several authors.

It is a universal socio-linguistic phenomena that occurs when different cultures come into touch; as a result of this contact, cultural elements freely flow from one culture to the next.

This is particularly true in the situation of language, where there is a pressing need for communication between speakers from various language communities who come into touch. As a result, language growth in English and Hausa occurs through lexical borrowing.

It is well acknowledged that no language can exist in isolation without interacting with its neighbours or other languages. The contact could be political, economic, or social. If a language does not add new terms, it is likely that it will fall behind other languages.

Borrower terms are frequently used to allude to technology, like as machines, engines, telephones, and so on, as well as language, which is an essential component of any culture.

It is nearly impossible for any language to exist solely on its own unless its speakers do not leave their domain for another, nor do they allow speakers of another language into their territory.

Lexical borrowing is frequent in most languages because no language is an island unto itself. On that point, this project will investigate the phenomena of language growth through lexical borrowing. It will deal with the study of the English and Hausa languages, since they both draw from one another.
