AN INVESTIGATIVE STUDY OF THE CAUSES AND EFFECTS OF EARLY MOTHERHOOD IN NIGERIA A CASE STUDY OF EJIGBO OSUN STATE
ABSTRACT
The goal of this study was to look into the reasons and challenges of early motherhood in Ejigbo, Osun State. The notion of early motherhood, variables contributing to early motherhood, difficulties connected with early motherhood, and a summary of the review of literature were all reviewed.
The sample size was limited to 200 people. To collect information for the study, a self-designed questionnaire was employed, which was fully validated and checked for reliability. The percentage and chi-square tests were used to analyze the results (X2). The investigation found that the key factors of early motherhood are: lack of marriage counseling, financial position, lack of knowledge of sex education, and poor parental care.
It was also demonstrated that early pregnancy causes female dropouts and a slew of health issues for adolescent mothers and their offspring. Based on the findings, various recommendations were given, such as: parents, school counselors, and other professionals should help youngsters understand the negative repercussions of marrying at a young age.
To discourage early motherhood, the government should provide jobs and funds to citizens. Sexuality and family education should be prioritized. To do this, sexuality and family life education should be included into the current primary and secondary school curricula.
The course content should be chosen from biological sciences, social and psychological programs, and should have an emphasis on growth and development. Parents should consider themselves to be appropriate agents of sex socialization at home.
Sexuality education should be introduced at home during children’s upbringing. Facts about family life and morality, particularly live and reproduction facts, should not be overlooked. The government should give proper care and assistance to females, particularly teenagers, who face a number of social, economic, obstetrical, gynecological, and emotional issues.
The government should give equipment and facilities in various hospitals so that doctors and nurses can provide proper treatment and services to youngsters suffering from both short-term and long-term health problems.
