ANALYSIS OF INDUSTRIAL WASTE MANAGEMENT PRACTICE IN BREWERY INDUSTRY

ABSTRACT

Open dumping remains the most popular way of residential waste disposal in Nigeria, particularly in Benin City, Edo State. This type of behaviour is unsanitary and environmentally harmful. This study focusses on effective home waste management techniques in the study region, Benin City, Edo state. The study discovered that there are different forms of management or disposal methods in use in the study area, such as packing and burning, dumping in pits outside the house, and dumping in streets by inhabitants using wheelbarrows. Scavengers, the Ministry of Environment, and private organisations dealing with domestic rubbish are also featured. The study’s data was gathered and analysed using observations, questionnaire administration, and oral interviews. The study suggests that the state government give residential waste management equipment and vehicles, as well as generators, on loan to waste management agencies. Waste management methods such as the construction of sanitary landfills and the acquisition of incinerators for recycling plants promote waste-to-wealth activities, which reduces the amount of garbage physically available in the research region.
