ABSTRACT
This study looked at job satisfaction among professional nurses in Anambra State’s public and private health care sectors. A survey design was used, with a sample size of 5903 professional nurses from commercial and public hospitals. The study’s sample size of 375 nurses was chosen using a proportionate stratified random selection technique. The data was collected using a structured questionnaire. The acquired data was analysed using the mean and standard deviation statistical tools to answer the four research questions, and the t-test statistical tool to assess the four hypotheses. The findings revealed that nurses in public hospitals were more satisfied with job security than nurses in private hospitals. Nurses in public and private hospitals reported feeling satisfied with their job control and duties. Furthermore, it was discovered that nurses at public and private hospitals are more satisfied with their jobs when they have opportunities for promotion. Based on the findings, it was suggested that hospital management establish a dissatisfying work environment so that nurses can carry out their jobs efficiently towards the achievement of the organization’s aim. A few pertinent issues that the current study did not address were proposed for additional inquiry.

INTRODUCTION
Background of the Study
Output in terms of performance in any given organisation is determined by a variety of factors, including job happiness. Job satisfaction, often known as “work satisfaction” in the literature, has been characterised in numerous ways. employment satisfaction is the extent to which an employee exhibits a good attitude towards their employment.
It also describes how satisfied a person is with his or her employment. employment satisfaction has also been characterised as a pleasurable emotional state caused by an assessment of one’s employment, an affective reaction to one’s job, and an attitude towards one’s job (Chimanikire, Mutandwa, Gadzirayi, Muzondo, & Mutandwa, 2007; Thompson & Phua, 2012).
Job satisfaction refers to a worker’s sense of accomplishment and success on the job. It is widely thought to be directly related to both productivity and personal well-being. Job satisfaction entails doing a job that one enjoys, performing well, and being compensated for one’s efforts.
Job satisfaction means excitement and delight about one’s work. Job satisfaction is a vital factor in achieving recognition, salary, promotion, and other goals that lead to a sense of fulfilment (Kaliski, 2007).
Because of the anticipated and common-sense links between job satisfaction and other popular notions, it has remained a significant focus of industrial and organisational psychology research.
