APPLICATION OF COMPUTER BASED EXAMINATION SYSTEM
Chapter one
1.0. Introduction.
Online computer-based exams are commonly used in educational institutions to assess student performance. These exams can be given at any level of education, from primary to higher education, but are most commonly used at higher levels. The computer-based examination system serves three primary purposes:
– Enable simultaneous entry exams at multiple locations via an online examination website. – Properly arrange and code entrance exams, results, and admission status.
– Integrate database with programme for easy system administration. – Create computer-based entrance test.
This project will propose all features and techniques for developing the system.
The process involves continual evaluation of objectives, scope limitations, process model, team requirements, potential risks, project schedule, and monitoring and reporting mechanisms.
Computer-based exams help educational institutions save time and prepare students for entrance exams, while also developing their skills.
Using computer-based systems in education can help students achieve higher exam results in less time, making them happier.
Creating questions for online exams requires careful consideration due to their computer-based nature.
With the development of the upcoming computer programme. This software has had a significant impact on both personal life and academic performance.
Examination application systems are fast, reliable, and convenient, with options ranging from stand-alone to computer-based and web-based. This technique can quickly teach users how to use computers, saving them money and time.
1.1. Historical Background of the study
Abia State Polytechnic, Aba was formed by Edit No. 8 of 1994, with retrospective effect from October 2, 1992. The location is the former Girls Technical College (GTC) Aba, on Aba-Owerri Road. In 1994/1995, students enrolled in various certificate programmes for the first time.
Higher National Diploma programmes began in 1999/2000. The state polytechnic Act governs the provision of full-time and part-time instruction and training courses.
The polytechnic’s first Rector was Dr. C.L Odimuko, followed by Elder C. Ijeoma and the current Rector, Elder Abalogun A. Onukaogu.
Abia State Polytechnic in Aba has schools for science and engineering, as well as business administration. The school colours are yellow and dark red.
FACULTY AND COURSES OFFERED
Abia State Polytechnic provides the courses listed in the JAMB admission booklet.

Certificate programmes in computer science (evening) include Computer Operations/Packages, Computer Programming, and Computer Studies.
1.2. PURPOSE OF THE STUDY
The objectives of the study are as follows:
a. The new approach improves exam writing efficiency and effectiveness. b. It prevents outsider attacks and question leaks.
c. Develop a dependable database that cannot be altered. d. Facilitate computer-based examinations for easy option selection.
e. It will highlight the benefits of current examination systems for our higher education institution.
1.3. SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY
Computer-based exams offer a web-based interface for assessing student performance and providing course assessments. The computer-based test should achieve the following objectives.
a. Offer a more flexible examination schedule, including timing and location.
b. Provision dynamism in examinations: Multiple students can take exams simultaneously on or off campus without any issues.
c. Allow educators/trainees to prepare materials ahead of time and identify key subjects for discussion in class.
d. Offer user-friendly software to spark students’ interest in the course of study.
1.4. SCOPE AND LIMITATIONS OF THE STUDY
The study focuses on online and computer-based assessment systems. Today’s world is transitioning to I.C.T compliance, with simultaneous changes in all aspects. The research effort aims to establish a standard for examination.
This breadth of region coverage includes admission procedures for students who may have passed Jamb. The entrance exam covers admission requirements and aptitude tests
which were formerly administered manually. The scope reduces the demand for human resources in the tests and record department by automating tasks.
LIMITATION: The study might have been conducted without many obstacles, which would have helped establish standards. During the research process, the researcher encountered various problems, including:
a. Time constraints: Conducting research during academic hours caused significant obstacles for me.
