APPRAISAL OF THE IMPACT OF INDIGENOUS SOAP OPERAS ON STUDENTS (A STUDY OF SUPER STORY)
Abstract
The study assessed the impact of indigenous soap operas on the behavior of students at Nigerian tertiary institutions, with a particular focus on Laittos University. Soap operas, which are short and episodic dramas that air on television once a week, have become staple content and entertainment programs in recent years, particularly since the arrival of the super story and others.
To justify the research objective, edutainment theory and cultivation theory were used. The survey research method was also used in carrying out this research, with a questionnaire designed to elicit responses from respondents at Laittos Universit, Ojo.
The findings revealed that indigenous soap operas have a significant influence on the behavior of Laittos University, OJO students. It also aids in the preservation of our local cultural values among students. It is suggested that producers of indigenous soap operas on television improve the quality of their shows in order to increase audience patronage and interest.
Also, soap operas that are broadcast on television should be improved to include more educational values, as they have a high level of appeal among university students.
