ABSTRACT

The purpose of this research was to examine the local education authority kwali as a case study to determine the value of office managers and their position in public organisations. The office manager is introduced in the introduction along with the office manager’s evaluation and position within the organisation. The responsibilities involved in starting and keeping a working partnership are endless. We utilised the straightforward percentage approach. The study’s three research objectives informed the development of fifteen research questionnaires; the study’s key findings revealed that office managers’ relationships significantly impact an organization’s performance, for better or worse. The office manager and the organisation should strive for a secure connection, according to the research, despite the fact that it would be tough.

CHAPTER ONE

INTRODUCTION

1.1 The Background of the Study

If the two terms that make up the core of this discussion—”Assessment of office managers”—are defined precisely, then the subject at hand will be easier to grasp. An examination or piece of writing created with the intention of producing a certain outcome is one definition of assessment.

In order to better understand the circumstance or individual, an evaluation is conducted based on the necessity of using one’s judgement. Therefore, an evaluation is required in order to get a response, outcome, or justification for moving on.

A concentration on making a judgement about a person or situation is what Evelyn (1999) calls an assessment. The definition of “assess” is to form an opinion about something after giving it considerable consideration.

The office manager is something that is known only to a select group of people and is kept out of the public eye, according to Azuka (1992). As a result, the office manager serves as a secret keeper.

The office manager is primarily responsible for assessing the work of his subordinates. Character, attitude, potential, and previous work performance are the factors that will be considered in this evaluation.

Another thing that public organisations have noticed is that people like to be acknowledged, if not for their accomplishments then at least for being themselves.

Acquiring status, skill standards, and the ability to put these into practice are all aspects of professionalism that members of similar trades and professions strive for when they band together to promote the importance of their service standard and foster a culture of professionalism, according to Azuka (2001). The office manager’s status in various ministries, organisations, and individuals is assessed in this study.

Additionally, businesses are found to require little more than a basic update on their employment status in order to meet these requirements. The role of the office manager is now considered mature. The concept of taking initiative, making decisions, and applying administrative skills is no longer limited to the typewriter.

However, organisations still need to recognise and accommodate these facts if they want to get the most out of today’s office managers in the modern, transformed workplace.

1.2 The Statement Of The Problem

Knowing where you’re going is crucial. The researcher felt compelled to conduct this study because, among other things, few organisations include office managers in their training and development programs, and even fewer people and groups give the profession the respect it deserves.

1.3 The Purpose Of The Study

The study has many goals, the most important of which are:

1. Determine if the office manager’s position in the public sector has resulted in the necessary functional corrections.

2. Determine whether office managers fully utilise contemporary office equipment.

3. The goal is to draw attention to the tested and real professionalism of office management in the context of the newly-revolutionized office trend.

1.4 Research Questions

When it comes to office managers and their position in public organisations, what kinds of functional corrections are sought after?

How can current office equipment be utilised to its fullest potential by managers?

In today’s modern workplace, how can one tell whether an office manager is really professional?

1.5 The significance Of The Study

This task is crucial because it allows the researcher to interact with executives, office managers, and those who work closely with them in the workplace. Office managers, society, organisations, and students stand to benefit from this study since it will shed light on how to increase status recognition for office managers and other workers.

Since this study will provide management with a road map for guiding office managers and other staff members, the organisation as a whole stands to gain the most. Additionally, it will assist office managers in comprehending how they might contribute to elevating the standing of their profession.

On the flip side, students can get experience and knowledge of tools used in the business sector. The value of office managers as professionals will be better understood by the general public.

1.6 The Scope and Limitations of the Study

Using Kwali as a case study, this research focusses on the department of office manager’s profession and standing in a public organisation. In order to keep the research manageable and finish within the allotted time, the study will only cover the office manager’s profession and status in the local education authority Kwali public organisation.

Chapter Two
