ABSTRACT

In this survey, researchers looked at how patients felt about using the changing rooms and locker rooms at radiology institutions. University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital (UNTH), National Orthopaedic Hospital (NOHE), and Niger Fondation Hospital (NFH) in Enugu were the sites of a 2012 survey study. Using easy sampling, we surveyed 120 people with four research questions, each with three items. Mean score tables were used for statistical analysis of the data. The results for research questions 1, 2, 3, and 4 were 2.4, 2.9, 3.1, and 2.9, respectively, according to the study. The results showed that patients’ attitudes towards radiology changing rooms and changing facilities are impacted by inadequate facilities in the x-ray changing rooms; patients’ concerns about the cleanliness of the x-ray changing gowns impact their attitudes towards using the facilities in the radiology changing rooms; and patients’ concerns about privacy are impacted by the x-ray changing gowns. Based on the average scores compared across all three hospitals, it was found that the general physical environment of the x-ray changing rooms influenced patients’ attitudes across the board, while the facilities in the changing rooms influenced patients’ attitudes within each hospital. Lastly, patients’ perceptions of dignity in using the changing gowns contributed to their attitude across all three hospitals. As a result of this research, the radiology department will be able to address the issue of patients’ unwillingness and bad perceptions of the radiology changing rooms and facilities.

CHAPTER ONE

INTRODUCTION

Background of the Study

The term “patient” encompasses everyone who gets medical treatment. A doctor, APRN, or other medical professional is usually needed to treat the patient because they are sick or hurt.1 Also, he doesn’t help the treatment process much because he doesn’t know what to expect from the medical investigations and operations that will get him better.

The peculiar atmosphere of the hospital has an effect on his demeanour. He could not know how to enhance the diagnosis because he is not familiar with the medical setting.

As a result, he can be anxious about the diagnostic processes and the diagnostic centres themselves. Since this is a medical diagnosis, the patient requires reassurance2 and the assistance of a trained expert.

A person’s attitude towards a social object (a patient, for instance) is their long-term framework of positive or negative evaluations, emotions, and pro or con action tendencies. Emotion, belief, and conduct are the three components that make up an attitude.

So, a patient’s attitude reveals his thoughts, feelings, and reactions towards the radiology department and the hospital as a whole. His attitude is affected by a number of things, one of which being the patients’ degree of awareness and education. To the uninitiated patient, any radiology department item could look tainted.
