ABSTRACT
This study focusses on the physical distribution function in the brewery industry, specifically the Nigerian brewery company Enugu. The researcher describes the study’s physical distribution problems and developments. The introduction section provides a brief explanation of the meaning of physical distribution (general overview), the statement of problems, the objective of the study, and the significance of the study. Research question, hypothesis, study scope, study limitations, and operational term definition. Chapter Two Review of related literature, chapter three is devoted to methodology, and chapter four discusses the research findings. The discussions about finding were held with the goal of highlighting a solid foundation for some potential solutions. Chapter five saw the researcher’s climax, as he summarised and concluded all of his findings by making some recommendations. I concluded by making some recommendations for how the audience could help improve the physical distribution function in our brewery industries.
Chapter one
Introduction
1.1 Background of the Study
Production is considered incomplete until the products reach the consumer in the proper quantity, at the correct location, at a reasonable price, and in good condition.
Because of the proliferation of competition in Nigeria, having an efficient distribution system is critical to ensuring that goods produced reach the consumer.
Essentially, the goal of any company is to minimise costs while increasing profits. To accomplish this, a company must identify high cost-generating centres and work to reduce them.
Distribution activities generate costs; the goal of physical distribution management in businesses is to reduce total distribution costs to an absolute minimum while maintaining high customer service.
The term (“Distribution”) refers to the retiling on selling function of a vast firm composed of many thousand outlets ranging in size from the small corner shop to large super markets, department stores, and “CS SH AND CARRY” warehouses, all of which attempt to supply the needs of our consumer society.
So physical distribution management is concerned with the flow of raw materials and completed products from the suppliers to the maker and client (ie retailer). It is the link between manufacturing and production on one hand the store and client on the other hand.
The simplest description one can offer is that physical distribution is an integrated collection of an activities that deals with managing the movement of products with in business and through marketing channels.
