ASSESSMENT OF THE OF ROLE OF SUPPLIES FUNCTION IN THE PUBLIC SECTOR

ABSTRACT

An assessment of the role of the supply function in the public sector is a purchasing-related topic. Chapter one provides a general overview of the study. Chapter two is dedicated to a review of the study’s relevant literature. Chapter three discussed how data is obtained, including the sources of data collecting. In chapter four, a detailed examination of the findings was conducted in order to emphasise a solid foundation for some potential remedies. The fifth chapter represents the research study’s culmination. She summarises, concludes, and makes some recommendations that, if followed, could aid in an assessment of the role of the supply function by someone with professional qualifications.

CHAPTER ONE

INTRODUCTION

1.1 Background of the Study

The assessment and role of the supply function in the public sector, such as the Ministry of Finance in Imo State, is to identify the importance of the supply function’s impact on the organization’s overall performance.

Uzor (2006:358) defines the public sector as the segment of the economy in which the state behaves as an entrepreneur, and various causes have made supply functions more significant in recent years among governmental policymakers, academics, and business leaders.

The role of the supply function is fully recognised in all organisations, whether public or private, and even governmental agencies; as of today

the cost of materials, equipment, and supplies for industrial and non-industrial purposes accounts for a significant portion of these organisations’ costs. The public sector must have an LPO, which is a supply feature.

1. It must be received by the store officer and documented appropriately.

2. Supplies must meet the specifications of the L.PO.

3. The receipt for the purchased items must be accompanied or linked.

4. Supplies must be made within the specified time frame.

5. All supplied items must be reflected in a received ledge. While the supplies are given to the S.R.U.

Supplies are simply one of various operations related to material procurement in the public sector. The subject of supplies follows the same basic principles and procedures in all public sector large supplies are usually made only after the media of publicity for tender; to encourage tenders, suppliers must state precisely what level they wish to supply and the due delivery date to avoid conflict.

The purpose of this research study is to examine the assessment and role of the supply function in the Imo State Ministry of Finance in order to improve supply efficiency.

1.2 Statement of the Problem

This project is a case study for assessing the role of the supply function in Imo State’s Ministry of Finance. The primary issue under investigation is how well the ministry procures materials.

If one were to ask, does Imo State’s Ministry of Finance carry out its supply functions or activities successfully and efficiently? One of the issues they face is:

1. Problem with documentation

2. Weakness in the system for managing supplies and documentation

3. Lack of skilled and experienced personnel to handle public supply is an issue.

4. Issues with organisational structure, as well as tribalism and favouritism.

5. The impact of budgets and budgetary controls

6. Corruption.

1.3 GOALS OF THE STUDY

Sequel to the difficulty above of the supplies function in the public sector the aims of these study.

1. To analyse the quality and amount of workers that handle public supply with the objective of developing the business industry.

2. To evaluate the organizational structure of the ministry with a goal of finding out the impact of the structure of work performance and productivity.

3. To investigate the issue of corruption in the industry.

4. To analyse supplies and enable paperwork so as to identify it weakness and strength.

5. Examine the ministry’s procurement mechanism.

1.4 Significance of the Study

After completing these studies, the work will be extremely beneficial to the researcher because it is required by the board for technical education for the award of (OND);

without it, you will not be awarded the certificate. The researcher has been introduced to the skills and knowledge required to do similar projects in the future.

The research on completion will be of tremendous assistance to other student who may be faced with performing similar project as these, the work will supply them the vital data to the company.

After completing these tasks, individuals will be able to measure or compare what they are now doing to what they are supposed to do in order to evaluate whether they are performing their duties correctly or incorrectly.
