This study assesses the cardioprotective impact of an N-hexane extract of Desmodium Velutinum stem on albino wistar rats. The rats utilised in this investigation were divided into four groups, and each was fed differently. For seven days, rats in groups one, three, and four were fed 6ml of a lipoprotein food mixture including 3.6g of cow brain twice a day using a syringe without a needle. Rats in group two were fed only grower’s mush and water for seven days, while rats in group three were given 2ml of dissolved vasoprin orally once a day for three days. Rats in group four were also given 0.5ml of a liquid medication extract of Desmodium Velutinum stem once a day for three days. During the three (3) days, the rats received grower’s mush and water. Following the feeding period, the rats treated with cow brain exhibited a considerable rise in the activities of marker enzymes such as creatine kinase (CK), creatine kinase MB (CKMB), aspartate transeaminase (AST), alanine transminase (ALT), and lactate dehydrogenase. This study demonstrates that an N-hexane extract of Desmodium Velutinum stem has a greater cardioprotective impact on albino wister rats than the recognised drug (vasoprin), if the extract dosage is increased over time.
