ABSTRACT
The purpose of this study is to investigate the primary factors that contribute to deviant behaviour in our educational institutions and the consequences that result from it. Being a social organisation, the school has its own set of norms that everyone is required to follow. Sociologists used the term “deviant behaviour” to describe when members of a group or organisation act in a way that is contrary to the accepted standards. The researcher aimed to determine how much factors such as students’ ages, family histories, schools, professors, and society at large contribute to deviance in our educational institutions. Many students’ low academic performance is a direct outcome of their deviant behaviour, according to the hypothesis, which also suggests that deviancy may obscure students’ future achievements. Based in Enugu urban, Enugu state, the researcher attended one polytechnic and two universities. The study utilised 80 of the 90 questionnaires that were distributed. The percentage technique was used to portray the acquired data.

1.0 Background of the Study
All sorts of actions that don’t conform to the norms and policies of an organisation might be regarded as deviant. According to Ejiogu (1990), an organisation is a social unit with a stated purpose and a system in place to achieve that purpose. Institutions such as schools, churches, and universities are examples of typical organisations.
Members of any given group work together towards a common objective. Inconsistent behaviour like this can be observed in households, communities, businesses, and educational institutions.
A more practical definition of social organisation would be the processes by which human behaviour is structured to be more easily understood and managed within preexisting social networks, as well as the ways in which the shared values, norms, and assumptions held by members of these networks influence their actions.
As with any social organisation, the school has its own set of norms for conduct, including the official acts of the rector, professors, students, and any other group of people that work there. What sociologist call “deviant behaviour” is when people don’t follow the rules set out by any given group or organisation.
It is a way of behaving that deviates from the accepted norms of society. Disobedience to established norms of conduct is common among college and university students. After completing secondary school, students have the option to continue their education with a degree program at a university or college.
Higher education institutions are typically expected to have students enrolled between the ages of 18 and 24. When they are this young, kids are still trying to make sense of the world around them. Juvenile delinquency, deviancy, and other mental health issues are possible outcomes of this process.
