Background of the study

Introduction
Communication is the exchange of ideas, sentiments, attitudes, feelings, facts, or opinions between persons or organisations (Sam 2005:2). And, because management achieves stated objectives (typically to generate goods and services) by directing people and other resources towards those ends, communication is a must.

As a result, knowledge influences any managerial decisions as well as the quality of work performed by an organization’s line and personnel. To fulfil its goals, information must be timely, precise, accurate, and complete.

Disinformation or misinformation is a communication problem that can cause more harm than good in management communication via broadcast media, whether private or human. And communication within an organisation must not only be effective, but also coordinated, in order to fulfil management objectives.

However, (Huntington 2013) identified communication as an aspect that ties any human group’s organisation, in the sense that unless human beings within any organisation communicate, that organisation will be unable to achieve its defined aims and goals.

To accomplish their tasks effectively, line and staff members within an organisation must communicate. For the flow of information and for a manager to manage his employees, effective communication channels must be in place.

Information is transmitted from a manager to a subordinate or vice versa via modern communication channels, such as face-to-face conversations or inter-department memos.

Feedback between management and staff is an important part of the communication process. In this technique, employees notify the manager that they have comprehended the task at hand, while the manager provides them with feedback and directions on their work. A breakdown in the communication route causes an inefficient flow of information.

Employees are oblivious of what the corporation wants of them; however, they are uniformed with what the company expects. They are uniformed of what is going on in the company, which will cause them to become suspicious of motives and any changes in the company.

Additionally, without effective communication, employees become department minded rather than company minded, which affects their decision making and productivity in the workplace.

Eventually, this will impair the overall organisational purpose. Thus, in order for an organisation to function effectively, a competent manager must be able to explain to his or her employees what is expected of them

ensuring that they are completely informed of business regulations and any upcoming changes. To maintain seamless operation, managers should create effective communication channels to optimise worker productivity.

Statement of the Problem
Communication channels and productivity in broadcasting organisations are worldwide concerns that influence practically all broadcasters.

Atlantic FM Radio 104 Uyo has also faced issues in maintaining cordial communication channels, which has had an impact on staff productivity in increasing the organization’s broadcast role.

However, the present trend in the broadcast sector is a vacuum of communication channels practice, which could be due to a loss of productivity in most broadcast organisations as communication channels decline on a daily basis.

Could it be the case with Atlantic FM 104 Uyo? The organiser of this study is to look into this issue and propose solutions to improve communication channels in Atlantic Fm 104 Uyo.
