COMPARATIVE STUDY OF AUDIENCE PERCEPTION OF NTA AND BRTV AMONG STUDENTS IN NIGERIA
Abstract
The submission of previous literature examined, including this research on the comparative study of audience perception of NTA and BRTV Maiduguri: A Study Final Year Students of Unimaid Students, shows that video and audio quality, contents, and ownership structure of the media organization are some determinant factors on media preference of the people.
To provide depth to the research, the study is based on Perception Theory, Uses and Gratification Theory, and Source Credibility Theory. The study also employed the survey research method, as well as 200 copies of questionnaires that were distributed to respondents at UNIMAID among final-year students using multistage sampling, of which 178 copies were correctly filled and analyzed using the frequency and percentage table method with SPSS version 20.
According to the findings, the majority of students (80.8 percent) watch television stations on a regular basis, spending at least 1-6 hours per day on average. It is also demonstrated that a sizable proportion of respondents watch television for news, movies, and sports.
Many respondents prefer NTA to BRTV for reasons such as program quality, visual quality, accessibility, and so on. It can be deduced that because media now has less of an impact on people due to a variety of factors, it is clear that the impact of mass media on people is partial rather than total.
It is recommended that journalists working in government-owned media outlets recognize that they are serving the public, not just the state chief executive, and that they pay adequate attention to the press’s social responsibility principle.
