INTRODUCTION

1.1 Background of Study

In today’s entertainment environment, stadiums were originally meant to hold football events. When there are events, the sports and entertainment facility must be fully operational;

otherwise, it must be shut down to the safest and most cost-effective working state. One of the conditions for promoting high performance in the aforementioned industry is proper management of the event venue, which is the stadium.

According to George R. (1945), management is a separate process consisting of planning, organising, acting, and controlling; utilising both science and art; and carried out in order to achieve predetermined goals.

Stadium management encompasses any combination of skills related to planning, organising, directing, controlling, budgeting, leading, and evaluating within the context of an organisation or department whose primary product or service is stadium or physical activity (DeSensi, Kelley, Blanton, & Beitel, 2003).

There are several sectors, facilities, and activities that must be properly managed in the stadium. These include car parking space, seat allocation, ticket purchasing, stadium atmosphere during an ongoing event, risk assessment, information flow, facility management, and so on.

As previously discussed, the common practice involves spectators arriving at the event venue two (2) or three (3) hours before the event begins to purchase a ticket for the event, and once that is done,

the individual is directed to a parking space by a security personnel if he or she arrived by vehicle, and walks up to the stand to take a seat of his or her choosing.

The above practice undermines the benefits of a good stadium management system because it is incapable of controlling onlooker overcrowding, avoiding damage to stadium facilities caused by spectators as a result of ticket purchasing struggles, providing a good account of spectator profiles due to a lack of information storage facilities, and proper documentation for ticket sales.

Due to the inadequacies in the manual approach of administering the stadium, this calls for an upgrade in the way stadia are managed, resulting in a move from manual processing to computer-based processing, as endorsed by Davies D.W. and Barba D.L.A.

According to Davies D.W (1979), computers have supplanted manual technology because of their ability to process massive amounts of data or even complex work at quick speeds.

It produces accurate results every time, with the exception of when it is fed wrong data (garbage-in, garbage-out). As a result, the need for computerization has been certified.

According to Barba D.L.A (1979), computerization includes not only computer technology (hardware and software), but also the communication link, which establishes the link for data communication devices to interact and share data as well as transfer data/information from one location to another.

Furthermore, computers may be used to keep records, which are always available when needed. This eliminates the need to transport office files from one location to another, and in most circumstances, some papers may be lost or tampered with during transmission.

This results in a Computer Based Stadium Information Management System. This system is a web-based software application that will be designed to manage the activities that occur in the stadium in order to solve the flaws that were unable to be achieved by manual approach.

The system will have a user-friendly interface that will be designed to accommodate every necessary feature using HTML5 AND CSS3, making it easier for spectators to purchase their tickets online and avoid overcrowding the stadium gate. The system will also have a database
