Counselling For Sustainable Livelihoods With Target Clients (The Nigerian Adolescents And Youths)

INTRODUCTION

The increasing prevalence of unemployment in Nigeria is quickly becoming a popular topic. It is the ideal cynical mechanism, explaining why many crimes occur in society.

Most young people who engage in antisocial behaviour use unemployment as an excuse. For obvious reasons, it has also become the most appealing subject of debate in the country.

This threat can be effectively addressed if entrepreneurial development is suitably promoted through vocational education. Entrepreneurship, as defined in this paper, is the ability to create new adventures or apply new techniques to an existing enterprise. It involves taking risks, identifying business opportunities, gathering resources, initiating action, and forming an organisation or enterprise to address such demand or market opportunity.

This research provides evidence that supporting enterprise growth through Vocational Education is an effective strategy to combat unemployment in Nigeria.

The research also revealed that unemployment is a worldwide issue in Nigeria, and empowering youth is a guaranteed method to diversify the economy. The investigation also yielded conclusions and recommendations.

describes the history and progress of the Sustainable Livelihoods Approach to Poverty Reduction. In addition to explaining important concepts and principles, it introduces the DFID Sustainable Livelihoods Framework as a tool for poverty analysis. It also emphasises why poverty study at the household level is necessary, as well as the significance of investigating internal power dynamics inside homes.

examines the many components of the DFID Sustainable Livelihoods Framework in detail. It outlines and displays major features of the Vulnerability Context, as well as their impact on livelihood assets and tactics.

It also investigates how Policies, Institutions, and Processes support or undermine people’s lives, while developing an awareness of power dynamics throughout. Finally, it distinguishes between coping and adaptive techniques in terms of their effects on assets and outcomes.

gives practical guidelines for doing a Sustainable Livelihoods Analysis in the field. It discusses the relationship between the Sustainable Livelihoods Approach/Framework and participatory research methodology and instruments.

To demonstrate excellent practice, it presents a step-by-step account of an FAO Sustainable Livelihoods Analysis, followed by a Q&A session with the research consultant who did it.

Using the Approach and Framework, this study investigates practical approaches to promote poverty reduction. It investigates some common mistakes made by development practitioners when developing projects and initiatives

as well as providing examples of sustainable livelihoods best practice in the field. It closes with a detailed conversation with Oxfam Ireland’s Livelihoods Programme Coordinator.
