Image processing can be used to detect dental disease. The image contains noise as well as other environmental interferences. In this paper, we proposed a method for detecting dental caries from images. Manual image analysis is possible, but it is time consuming and prone to error. The traditional method of diagnosing dental diseases is to use radiographic films.
The use of radiographic films introduces errors as a result of noise and other environmental interferences. This system will make it easier for dental practitioners to identify caries. In this case, we use MATLAB to detect dental caries. For an accurate result, we used image preprocessing.
Because images are susceptible to noise and other environmental interferences, we used numerous image preprocessing steps to remove noise and other methodologies to accurately detect caries. Image segmentation is used to detect dental caries so that the system can distinguish between the caries and the tooth.
Caries detection would be simple and accurate. If no caries are found, the tooth is considered healthy. To track caries, we used image processing methodology. Finally, the system detects caries based on the connected component. This system entails image processing steps as well as the detection of dental caries. The proposed system can detect dental caries with a 50-60% success rate.
