DESIGN AND IMPLEMENTATION OF A SECURITY INFORMATION SYSTEM

1.0 Introduction
National security is the obligation to ensure the state’s survival through the employment of economic resources, security personnel, particularly police, political power, and diplomacy.

The concept originated mostly in the United States of America following World War II, with a concentration on police and military might. It now spans a wide range of facets, all of which rely on the police and military for the nation’s economic security, as well as the protection of people, property, and national ideals.

As a result, in order to have national security, a country must have economic, energy, and environmental security, among other things. Security threats can come from non-state actors

Including violent non-state actors, narcotic cartels, multinational corporations, and non-governmental organisations. Natural disasters and events causing severe environmental change may also fall into this category.

The contemporary notion of “national security” as a philosophy of preserving a stable nation state may be traced back to the Treaty of Westphalia, in which the concept of a sovereign state, ruled by a sovereign, became the foundation of a new international order of nation states.

As an academic notion, national security is a relatively new phenomena that emerged in the United States following World War II and has partially supplanted earlier concepts that explain states’ struggles to resist numerous external and internal dangers.

States’ battle to resist external and internal dangers. The term “national security” was first used at Yale University in 1790 to describe its relationship with domestic businesses.

The National Security Act of 1947, signed by US President Harry S. Truman on July 26, 1947, established national security as an official guiding principle of foreign policy in the United States.

This act, along with its 1949 amendment, established important aspects of American national security as the precursor to the Department of Defence, subordinated the security operatives branches to the new cabinet-level position of the Secretary of Defence, and established the National Security Council and the Central Intelligence Agency.

The Act did not define national security, which could have been useful because its vagueness gave it a potent word to raise whenever challenges posed by other state interests, such as domestic concerns, arose for discussion and decision making.

The realisation that national security entails more than merely security was apparent, albeit subtly, from the beginning.

The US National Security Act of 1947 was enacted “to advise the president on the integration of domestic security and foreign policies related to national security”.

According to Gen Maxwell Taylor’s 1947 article “The Legitimate Claims of National Security,” “national valuables” encompass existing assets, national interests, and sources of power that shape our nation’s destiny.

Some valuables are real and physical, while others are spiritual or intellectual. They range from political assets such as the Bill of Rights, national security

political institutions, and international relations to numerous economic assets that emanate globally from a highly productive home economy underpinned by abundant natural resources. The urgent necessity to defend goods such as these legitimises and emphasises the need of national security.

1.1 Statement of the Problem

Security information systems have always been critical to a nation’s stability. Manually storing security information can impede some defence programmes and postpone the transmission of security information to the appropriate body.

Manual documentation of security information can expose the knowledge, posing a hazard to the nation at large. Hence, there is need for an automated security information system to guarantee the safety of information.

1.2 PURPOSE OF THE STUDY

The overall goal of the project is to create a database for storing and retrieving security information.

Specifically, the following objectives are taken into consideration:

i. Create a database system for police security information.

6 ii. Create software for managing security information.

iii. Determine the efficacy of Nigerian police in controlling signals.

1.3 Definition of Terms and Variables

Policing is another way of representing the police.

Anti-policing is a social attitude that opposes state-to-state conflict, particularly when it comes to fighting polistic arguments.
A database is a regularly organised collection of computer data that can be automatically retrieved or changed. It is also known as a databank.

National security refers to the need to ensure the continuation of a nation-state by the deployment of economic, policing, and political power, as well as diplomacy.

7

Information security entails safeguarding information and information systems against unauthorised access, use, disclosure, interruption, alteration, perusing, inspection, recording, or destruction.

Classified information is sensitive information to which only certain groups of people have access due to laws or regulations.
Security Management is a vast subject of management that includes asset management, physical security, and human resource safety activities.
