DESIGN AND IMPLEMENTATION OF AN EXPERT MANAGEMENT SYSTEM FOR AUTOMOBILE FAULT DETECTION

1.0 Introduction
Currently, most households own at least one car. This figure demonstrates how significant an automobile is in people’s lives because it completes the life cycle.

This computer expert system is intended to assist those in need of guidance in dealing with their automotive troubles. Although it may not provide the same level of guidance and support as a human expert, specifically a mechanic, the expert system can provide interim aid to people who require immediate assistance due to time and distance constraints.

1.1 Background of the Study
Movement from one location to another has become much easier with the use of an automobile, particularly for individuals who are constantly on the road due to their work. Cars simplify our lives and increase the value of time since they allow us to save more time.

However, many who own cars do not want to encounter problems with their vehicles because troubleshooting can be a nightmare for them, particularly women.

Some people who own their own cars do not know how to deal with them when they have a problem. All they know is how to start the engine, drag the clutch if it is not automatic, press the paddy, and brake when necessary.

Even worse, they don’t know how to fill the petrol tank, which isn’t ideal. They won’t know what to do if something happens to their vehicles. All they can do is call the mechanic for assistance.

So, it is hoped that this computer expert system would assist folks who require guidance in dealing with their car troubles. Although it may not provide the same level of guidance and support as a human expert, specifically a mechanic, the expert system can provide interim aid to people who require immediate assistance due to time and distance constraints.

1.2 Statement of the Problem
Mechanics are the people who can help you solve automotive problems and troubleshoot them. The usage of a computer expert system is advantageous in several ways. It provides a temporary and rapid guide to car owners in many scenarios, such as:

When mechanic support is unavailable.

When we are in a hurry

When the distance to the mechanical location is long.

When mechanics diagnose incorrectly, etc.

1.3 GOALS OF THE STUDY

To create an expert system for car maintenance and troubleshooting that can aid car owners in dealing with and troubleshooting their vehicles when time is limited and human experts, also known as mechanics, are not available at the moment.

The system’s evolution will undoubtedly have some significance for people, particularly those who own a car, as well as the system developer. Among others, the system will perform the following functions:

It will make its diagnosis based on the users’ responses to particular questions asked by the system to them.

It includes a facility for gathering user feedback on the following: does the user agree with the system’s diagnosis? Is the user disagreeing with the system’s diagnosis?

It offers explanation, picture, why, and factual information.

It saves the facts and conclusions of the system’s inference, as well as the facts and conclusions of the user’s inference, in a database for each case.

It processes the data in order to derive rules that will complete the knowledge base.

1.4 Significance of the Study

The proposed device can assist unskilled mechanics and drivers in diagnosing vehicle faults.

Furthermore, the system provides the following benefits:

Expert systems boost productivity by allowing mechanics to complete more work in less time.

Expert systems eliminate the requirement for expert mechanics. Repairing a car requires a great level of experience. This technique can help unskilled mechanics locate the trouble.

Expert systems preserve the knowledge of firm specialists who may eventually retire, resign, or die.

Expert systems train new employees to solve problems in the same way that experienced professionals do.

Expert systems are not prone to issues like exhaustion, emotion, and overwork, which plague human experts.

Expert systems convert expert information into machine-readable form, which can be accessed at any time.

Expert systems provide consistent results.

Expert systems can do some jobs more quickly than humans.
