DESIGN AND IMPLEMENTATION OF AN ONLINE BOOKSHOP

Chapter one

INTRODUCTION
It is evident that the internet and the World Wide Web are expanding faster than predicted in previous decades. The Internet has unequivocally transformed the world to a global village where all knowledge is easily accessible.

Shopping, which is a vital element of real-world activities, has made its imprint on the internet. It is usually referred to as E-shopping, which stands for electronic shopping or online shopping.

On-line Bookshopping comprises the purchase and sale of various types of books, with the consumer making his choice and paying over the internet or any other computer network. This pattern of internet trade has expanded dramatically as the internet has become more widely used.

This new tendency has made a significant contribution to the growth of e-business, notably e-education. Every day, the number of transactions increases, encouraging and drawing improvements in the E-Library System, E-Commerce, Electronic Fund Transfer, Supply Chain Management, Online Transaction Processing, and Internet Marketing.

Online Bookshops typically use the World Wide Web (www) to some level in the transaction life cycle; this also includes shopping for tangible things requested online.

This chapter of the project research not only investigates the study’s history, problem statement, purpose of study, importance of study, and constraints, but it also exposes and expounds the secrets and fortunes locked up in an online bookstore.

1.1 Background of Study

The Federal Polytechnic Nekede in Owerri is one of the Higher Institutions of Learning that the Federal Government may be proud of due to the high quality of its graduates.

It was founded with the goal of giving and equipping students with enough and edifying information and inspiration to pursue their education. It is located in eastern Nigeria.

This school mentions the school bookshop, which is housed in the School of Business and Management Technology. It was founded not merely to meet the school’s immediate investment needs or to generate money. It was designed to assist students in their learning by delivering books at a lower cost with less compulsion.

The bookshop is known as POLYNEK CONSULTANCY LIMITED. The POLYNEK Farm Plantation is administered with funds supplied by the bookshop. They are also in charge of delivering bathroom tissues to school hostels and managing the files that pupils open during admission.

STATEMENT OF PROBLEM

The current system of operation and manner of transaction in the schools’ bookshop has been tormented by the following problems:

Poor book layout in the shop.

Dirty and stuffy hallway

Time wasted in searching for desired books.

Time wasted in attending to students.

Conflicting, ambiguous, and insufficient record keeping for daily transactions

The bookshop is not in the correct place.

PURPOSE OF STUDY:
The study’s goal is to identify the issues impeding business growth and offer realistic remedies by analysing existing challenges or transaction systems as well as the entire method of operations.

To modify the problematic existing system, it is necessary to build an effective, user-friendly or online transaction for students, instructors, and other interested clients anywhere they may be and project it for execution.

Significance of the Study

The significance of this study (i.e. Federal Polytechnic Nekede Bookshop or POLYNEK Consultancy Limited) stems from transaction changes in the operation, the cost of carrying out other operations, their functions, and their benefits.

Limitations and Constraints of the Study

This part discusses the challenges encountered in acquiring facts and critical information regarding the current system and mode of operation of transactions from an unreliable sales manager and unpleasant pupils.

It also contains the ability to obtain knowledge from other sources such as journals, books, and the internet, which is extremely valuable.

The manager, i.e. the shopkeeper, certain resources, programming language, and the efforts required in constructing the new and better Bookshop On-Line transaction were all tiresome and herculean tasks.

The project research study considers the challenge of merging it with other academic activities, as well as the fiscal crunch and other technical issues. Also included is the study’s overall goal, such as operational feasibility.

Definition of terms:

– Acquiring bank: a financial institution that takes payments for a merchant’s products or services.

BOOKSHOP: It is sometimes referred to as bookshops. It is thus a space or shop where books of a certain or several sorts are stored and sold.

A computer is an electromechanical device that can accept data as input, store it, process it, and output it as a result or information.
