DESIGN AND IMPLEMENTATION OF AN ONLINE BOOKSTORE WITH E-PAYMENT INTEGRATION
INTRODUCTION
1.1 Background of Study
Internet and database technology have become increasingly popular as computer science has advanced and improved. Many consumers prefer to shop online rather than visiting a physical bookstore.
Enterprise IT departments have recognised the benefits of the internet. E-commerce functionality is becoming powerful. People may shop from home quite easy. Nowadays, bookstore websites are commonly used as a platform for selling and purchasing books online.
Registered customers can search for any books they want to buy. An online bookstore is a web application that allows customers to purchase books online using a web browser.
The primary goal of this project is to establish a website where customers can come, purchase books online, and have them delivered to their doorstep.
Customers can search for a book by title, author, or ISBN (International Standard Book Number), then add it to their shopping basket and complete the transaction with a credit card.
The card transaction can be made with a Visa, Verve, or Credit card. The administrator will have more access to the system than the average user. Buying and selling books online is called electronic commerce. (Dayle, 2001).
1.2 Statement of the Problem
There are several online businesses on the internet. People have several options for purchasing things via the internet. These products include household appliances, electronics, apparel, literature, and many others. People nowadays are so busy that they don’t have time to visit shopping malls and buy what they desire.
This was the primary problem that online buying was designed to tackle. That is why the importance of internet buying is expanding over time, and no one can deny it. Online stores provide many discounts that you would not discover in traditional places.
Furthermore, many online stores provide not only big savings on various products, but also free shipping. Online shopping not only saves you time, but it also saves you money because you don’t have to visit each shop and pay for petrol and patrol.
Another issue that online shopping aims to address is the waste of time and gas while not seeing the project you want to buy. Online shopping allows you to compare the same products at multiple online stores at the same time, which you cannot accomplish in a physical store.
As a result, you may not only compare product quality but also price. You may order anything from anywhere in the globe and have it delivered to your home. Whether you browse at an auction website like eBay or a specialty store, you are more than 90% likely to discover the goods you are looking for.
When you go shopping in a department store, you can’t find out about customer feedback on any product, but you can read it online. Customer feedback can help you purchase a product more easily.
1.3 Aims and Objectives of the Study
1.3.1 Aim of the Study
The primary purpose of this study “Design and Implementation of an Online Bookshop” is to create a website “Madonnastore” where people may visit and purchase books using a web browser.
1.3.2 PURPOSE OF STUDY
The study’s aims are as follows.
To save time and energy spent going to a physical bookstore to buy books.
To save money since extra money that would be used to get to the actual bookshop is saved.
To enlighten people about electronic commerce.
1.4 Significance of the Study
The purpose of this study is to educate individuals about online shopping, particularly for books, and to collect information regarding customer purchasing behaviour through online shopping.
This project will make it easier for people to get the books they want because they won’t have to travel far and can simply search the internet.
1.5 SCOPE OF STUDY.
This project will focus on customer registration and login, book browsing or searching from a catalogue, shopping cart management, order placement, and product shipment.
The course of study will not cover online payment, email marketing, multi-store management, promotion management, or multi-channel operations.
1.6 Limitations of the Study
There were some restrictions that could have limited the project’s performance and completion. These limits include the inability to access the internet in order to obtain specific information, as well as making the correct selection on the tools and approach to utilise.
Insufficient funding and illness are two of the constraints limiting this project investigation. However, the project’s limits include the high cost of merchant account registration for payment gateway integration, as well as inexperience with data encryption for data security.
