DESIGN AND IMPLEMENTATION OF AN ONLINE SHOPPING SYSTEM

Chapter One: Preamble

This chapter discusses the study’s background, significance, aims and objectives, methodology, and a statement of the problem with the online buying system.

1.2 Background of the Study.

Buying and selling things over the Internet is nothing new. People have shifted from traditional shopping to electronic shopping, often known as “Online Shopping”, “e-tail” from “electronic retail” or “e-shopping”.

It is a type of electronic commerce that allows customers to buy goods or services directly from a seller via the Internet using a web browser. More and more businesses are creating websites with capability for conducting commercial transactions over the internet. It is acceptable to argue that online shopping is becoming more commonplace.

The goal of this project is to create a general-purpose e-commerce store where customers may purchase things such as clothing, electronics, and furniture from the comfort of their own homes via the internet.

An online shopping system is a virtual store on the Internet that allows users to browse the catalogue and select products of interest. At the time of payment, further information will be required to complete the transaction.

Typically, the customer is prompted to provide or pick a billing address, a mailing address, a shipping method, and payment information such as a credit card number.

1.3 Statement of Problem

The current system’s existing challenges include the use of a manual system for storing staff and customer details, the fact that customers can only order at the company counter or by phone and must wait in a queue, which can be unpleasant and waste time and energy

the disadvantage of advertising and information about new product items or improving products, and the loss of data due to natural disasters such as fire, flood, and so on.

1.4 Aims and Objectives.

This project aims to design and execute an online shopping system. The objectives are:

To identify the system’s requirements, undertake a system analysis.

To design the suggested system in accordance with the identified requirements.

To set up the online purchasing system.

To test the online shopping system.

1. 5 Motivation

Mahadi Mega Shops uses a manual approach, which is thought to be a primitive and inefficient manner given the developments in online buying. It is necessary to begin this project with the division of easing manual approach

which is tiresome, annoying, time-consuming, error-prone, big storage space, and labor-intensive. The proposed system can help to mitigate the difficulty mentioned above.

1.6 Methodology.

Waterfall will be used as the software development life cycle paradigm for this project. Observation and interviews will be the key data sources for this project’s development, as well as secondary sources such as examinations of previous records, books, and journals.

A use case diagram will be used to illustrate the system’s functional needs, and the system will be modelled with a sequence diagram and an activity diagram.

The system will be designed utilising HTML5 and CSS for layout and design, JavaScript for client-side validation, and PHP and MySQL for server-side validation and database management.

1.7 Scope and Limitation.

The online shopping system will allow customers to browse products and pricing. It will also allow them to log in and place orders, which they can pay for online. Customers will be unable to negotiate product prices or track their orders, and the website will be isolated.

1.8 Significance of the Study

The study aims to improve the shopping system’s efficiency. The clear advantage of Internet information processing over old manual systems is higher yields.

The online shopping system enables consumers to view product information, new or upgraded products, price changes, discounts, and so on. There are numerous other benefits of an online purchasing system, some of which are described below.

It is quite handy to use from your bedroom, office, or anyplace in the world.

Information processing is extremely rapid, and delays can be avoided.

To improve client happiness, speed up online purchasing delivery.
