DESIGN AND IMPLEMENTATION OF AUTOMATED MOTOR VEHICLE DRIVING SYSTEM

1.0 Introduction

Computer data processing is very important in today’s society, and computers are increasingly being used to solve industrial, commercial, mathematical, and scientific challenges.

In recent years, there has been an increasing need to computerise the activities of large public and private enterprises in order to improve overall efficiency. This is accomplished by employing a computer to store, process, and retrieve data, as well as generate reports.

These computers make use of application packages, which are computer programmes and instructions designed to cover all parts of a certain task in achieving the goal.

It is now well acknowledged that an efficient data processing system considerably aids in the coordination of all complex tasks within an organisation.

Given the Imo State Motor Licencing Authority’s size and volume of work, it is necessary to computerise its operations. Aside from the aforementioned benefits, this will now replace the laborious procedure of registering vehicles, issuing driving licences, renewing expired licences, and changing ownership of vehicles.

Because the computerised method of operation is flexible and accurate, and record keeping is ensured, the Motor Licencing Authority’s management will have more time for planning and decision-making rather than being buried in the details of ordinary operations.

This is crucial since management ultimately controls any establishment. Furthermore, computerised licencing processes will ensure that the required information on a vehicle is quickly available to the authorities in the event of an emergency, such as a car theft or a road accident.

The researchers organised the project report into five chapters. The first chapter discusses the introduction, the Imo State Motor Licencing Authority in brief, the challenges that led to the study, and the project’s objectives.

Chapter two covers the literature review, general overview, computer application software, and system software. Chapter three examines the method of data collection.

Data preparation and analysis, manual operations, manual operations report generation, file organisation and processing, database management system, database administrator, database administration history, and processing benefits.

The fourth chapter focuses on the database file created, a list/description of the project’s developed programmes, how to execute the software packages, the password routine, the hardware requirements, and the system flow chart.

Chapter five discusses challenges discovered during the project’s execution, as well as the conclusion and recommendations.

IMO State Licencing Authority

The Imo State Licencing Authority is an arm of the Imo Board of Internal Revenue tasked with determining the authenticity of vehicles purchased locally or imported into the country and registering them after inspection for easy identification, issuing driving licences to qualified citizens after a test, renewing expired driving licences, and changing vehicle ownership.

Through these operations, the licencing authority generates revenue for the state government in the form of fees charged to consumers for the maintenance of the roads on which these vehicles travel.

The Imo State Motor Licencing Authority was established in 1976, when the state was created. As previously indicated, it is an agency of the Internal Revenue Board under the state Ministry of Finance.
