INTRODUCTION

1.1 Background of the Study

The hospital provides high-quality health care services, but they emphasise that they do not only treat physical illnesses that affect the human body, but also a far deeper and more holistic healing of the full person.

These service areas encompass all of the wards (medical and surgical for men and women, paediatrics, the chest unit, and the entire maternity division).

Other departments include the outpatient department (OPD), laboratory department, pharmacy department, central sterling and supply department (CSSD), X-ray department, community medicine and mobile clinic, and theatre department.

The functions of these departments are complimentary, demonstrating what they term teamwork in patient management, with the patient always at the centre.

Since its inception, the Hospital has taken a strong interest in the recruitment and development of highly competent and reliable medical and paramedical personnel.

1.2 Statement of the Problems

Manual file handling causes numerous issues. It is regrettable that His Glory Hospital, although providing a major medical service, still keeps its records manually.

The issues with this manual system include time waste, improper use of statistical data, and duplication of effort in record keeping. Decision-making delays, the need for extensive clerical work, and a difficulty to keep up with the daily burden.

Slow response to queries/enquiries, rodent records, numerous human errors, lack of file confidentiality, and expensive stationary costs.

This computerization method is thought to be capable of fixing not only these problems, but also many others that may arise.

1.3 Aim and Objectives of the Project

The goal of this project is to create an information system for a hospital, with His Glory Hospital as a case study.

The aims of this initiative include—

To ensure total asset visibility.

Allowing for great degrees of detail in providing a complete patient history.

To reduce lead times and errors caused by damage or employee weariness.

To provide complete process control for the patient.

To ensure increased security, the system would require passwords to prevent unauthorised access.

To assist management in planning, monitoring, optimising resources, and determining their financial status at any given time.

1.4 Methodology.

The technique used in this research will be based on Microsoft Visual C# as a design tool and MSSQL as the database.

1.5 Significance of the Study

During the course of this examination, the researcher discovered that all medical records are kept manually, and having seen the problems associated with the manual system, the researcher advocates for a new system in patient-related services.

The new system’s design will address the previously noted issues by allowing for faster file retrieval and searches. By giving accurate and up-to-date information on demand.

It will reduce redundancy, avoid information loss, eliminate the need for large paper files and wasteful spending on paper folders, remove the file cabinet, and provide enough security to ensure the database system.

1.6 Scope and Limitations of the Study

The proposed system is designed to manage hospital-specific information and will be handled by hospital professionals such as cashiers, doctors, administrators, nurses, and chemists. It is not an Information System with a greater scope. It is merely a component of the Hospital Information System.

The project’s scope includes developing a computer-based information system for a hospital that will be used by these sections (Doctor, Administrator, and Pharmacy) to replace the hospital’s previous paper notebook recording system.

Each user is constrained to their function; for example, a cashier cannot undertake the task of an administrator. The pharmacy will be able to manage drugs, equipment, and suppliers, while the nurse will only be responsible for enrolling and updating patients’ data, among other things.

1.7 Definition of Terms

MEDICAL RECORDS: These are the records that detail the patient’s disease and treatment throughout a specific period of time.

A nurse is a person (typically a woman) who has been trained to care for the sick.

DOCTOR: A medical expert who has been trained and licenced to treat the sick.

PATIENT: A person undergoing hospital treatment.
