DESIGN AND IMPLEMENTATION OF ONLINE RADIO STREAMING APPLICATION

Chapter one

INTRODUCTION

1.0 Background of the Study

A radio streamer is a software or system that collects (accepts) a radio station streaming URL, verifies its legitimacy, and then connects to it via the internet using a computer.

It provides a more computerised approach to the way and manner in which we appreciate the use of technology by listening to radio online in our daily activities, so minimising the significant limitation associated with the limited system of listening via a radio player or mobile phone.

It serves as an alternate medium to AM/FM when transmitting a station, but why do we have to make a decision?

Some radio stations (both within and outside of the country) transmit live on the internet, and while FM radio is limited in its ability to reach frequencies at great distances, the software ensures that such information is available globally when needed.

Before designing the software, consider a case in which radio listeners, i.e. users, purchase an FM/AM radio device and begin listening to their preferred local station.

This device must have been pre-configured to provide access to these local stations. However, before the user can listen to his or her selected station, several requirements must be completed by the radio device.

Prior to the introduction of computer technology (namely, the internet), this was the way people listened to radio, but it has several limits in terms of judging or listening to radio throughout the country, or even beyond the vicinities of a local station.

It was for this reason that radio stations began streaming their shows online. The creation and application of computers and the internet improved the way radio stations broadcast their programmes.

1.2 Statement of the Problem

Listening to internet radio programmes in our midst, particularly among young people, is a time-consuming and delayed process, and even when the stations are available, consumers face numerous ups and downs when attempting to reach the broadcasting station’s URL.

Some of the issues raised by this method include:

Radio stations have limited accessibility.

Unable to access radio stations outside the country or outside a specific area.

Time was wasted trying to find the URLs for radio stations.

1.3 Aim and Objectives of the Study

The major goal of this project is to design and construct an Online Radio Streamer Application that, upon successful completion, will be able to achieve the following objectives:

Provide easy access to online radio broadcasts.

Easy documentation of the URLs of various radio stations.

To develop a well-organized and better environment for both radio stations and users to communicate with one another.

To minimise the old, manual approach and develop a faster, more accurate, and safer method of listening to radio stations.

1.4 Methodology.

To address these issues, the proposed methodology was to design the application in Visual C# – Winforms. Visual C# is a high-level programming language that was created and implemented for the.Net framework (a software framework created by Microsoft that runs largely on Microsoft Windows).

It is an object-oriented programming (OOP) computer language. It is available in two primary editions: commercial software, such as Microsoft Visual Studio, and freeware, such as Visual C# Express edition.

1.5 Scope of the Study

This project will create an online radio streamer that will allow users to listen to live radio broadcasts over the internet while saving the URL in the application database for simple access and reference.

It took the broadcast station’s different URL as input, connected to it, and then transferred the live broadcast back to the system application.

This system is great for its intended function and can be used for other similar purposes, such as listening to local music on the system.

1.6 Limitations of the Study

Every successful endeavour, including this one, has one or more limitations. To guarantee that I met the primary goal of my research, I faced my limits head on and dealt with them in order to acquire the best possible results.

The experiment will be confined to listening to online radio stations while connected to the internet, and will not extend beyond listening to radio stations and recording radio programmes to listen to later.

1.7 Significance of the Study

To enable unrestricted access to radio broadcasts both inside and outside Nigeria.

To improve accuracy in (1).

To develop an online radio streaming application that handles and manages radio station broadcast URLs.

To reduce the stress that consumers experience when attempting to access radio stations outside of their immediate area.

1.8 Definition of Terms

URL (Abbreviated form for Uniform Resource Locator) is a reference to a web resource that identifies its location (address) on a computer network as well as the method for getting it.

A WEBSITE is a collection of connected online pages, including multimedia content, that are often identified by a similar domain name and hosted on at least one web server.

A radio is an electronic device that receives radio waves and translates the information delivered by them into a usable form. It is sometimes used with an antenna.

STREAMING: A flow of data in the form of an audio broadcast, a movie, or a live video that is transferred smoothly and constantly from a source to a computer, mobile device, etc.

COMPUTER: An electronic device capable of accepting information (data) in a specific format and completing a series of operations in accordance with a specified but variable set of procedural instructions to create a result in the form of information or a signal.
