Determination Of Preferred Learning Styles Of Adult Learners As A Means Of Enhancing Their Schooling Behavior In Adult Literacy Centres In Cross River State

ABSTRACT

The study sought to determine the effectiveness of entrepreneurship education in reducing poverty among retirees in Enugu State, Nigeria. Four precise objectives, four associated research questions, and two null hypotheses were developed to steer the investigation. The descriptive survey research design was used in this study.

Literature relevant to the study was evaluated. The study’s population consisted of nine thousand, three hundred and eighty pensioners from Enugu state. The proportionate stratified random sample approach via balloting was used to pick 938 respondents for the study. The data collection instrument was a 41-item questionnaire (EEPRRQ).

Four specialists from the Adult Education and Science Education Departments at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, validated the instruments. The instrument’s reliability was validated using the Cronbach Alpha technique on 20 copies, and a correlation coefficient of.93 was found, indicating that it was reliable enough to begin the investigation.

Nine hundred and thirty-eight copies of the questionnaires were distributed to respondents, who returned them completely filled out, resulting in a 100% return rate. The research questions were answered using percentages, means, and standard deviations, while the null hypothesis was tested using t-test statistics at a significance level of 0.5.

The study’s findings revealed that continuous computer training and re-training for retirees, baking, catering services, and livestock farming such as pig, goat, and sheep rearing, among others, are examples of entrepreneurship education that can significantly improve technical skills for poverty reduction among retirees.

It was also discovered that entrepreneurship education can significantly improve business management skills for poverty reduction, including the ability to keep track of what customers buy and how much they spend; the provision of stock at the lowest possible cost to customers; and the proper packaging of products and services to attract customers in the market.

bad government and non-governmental organisation funding, a bad enabling business environment, and insufficient instructional materials, equipment, and infrastructure facilities are all major obstacles to entrepreneurship education for poverty reduction.

The study also discovered that establishing enough skill acquisition centres for retirees, the government providing low-interest loans to retired civil servants when needed, and reducing government taxation on small-scale business enterprises, among other strategies, were effective in improving entrepreneurship education for poverty reduction among retirees.

There was no significant difference in the mean replies of male and female retirees on the extent to which entrepreneurship education can improve technical and business management skills for poverty reduction in Enugu State.

The main implication of the study’s findings is that if seniors join the entrepreneurial education course, their poverty rate will decrease, consequently improving their economic condition

. Based on the findings, the major recommendations, among others, were that the retirement benefit system (pension and gratuity) should be properly designed by the pension board or unit; the working staff before retirement should be given opportunities by their employers for self-development on their preferred retirement benefit system (pension and gratuity); the operators of the system must be properly educated; and the enforcement mechanism must
