EFFECT OF FUNDING ON THE PERFORMANCE OF PRIVATE SCHOOLS

INTRODUCTION TO CHAPTER ONE OF THE EFFECT OF FUNDING ON THE PERFORMANCE OF PRIVATE SCHOOLS

1.1 STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM AND THE PURPOSE OF THE STUDY

It is logical to admit that everything one does has a purpose. As a result, it is important to emphasise that there is a compelling cause and purpose for this study activity.

The project’s goal is to assess the anticipated implications of a shortage of money on the provision of appropriate and quantitative education for the entire population, particularly the private sector.

As a result, it is vital to link the influence of funding on the performance of school infrastructure, qualified teachers, and student performance in both internal and external examinations, as well as the effect of the proprietors and proprietresses of these private schools.

1.2 THE RATIONALE FOR THE STUDY

As a result, it is now required to identify the importance of this study in relation to:

How has funding affected the performance of private schools in the area, specifically student enrolment, and how increasing school prices drive parents away, whilst moderate school fees encourage more parents to admit their ward.

Funding has also caused a delay in the process when it comes to important educational facilities and equipment. Where there is insufficient support, the opposite occurs.

When it comes to the employment of good and qualified teachers, correct funding encourages instructors to do well and qualified ones to be hired, whereas inadequate support of this most essential sector creates a setback in the process.

A good funding result in enough and sufficient working capital, as a good working capital promotes the excellent performance of the private schools, but a poor funding produces a major setback, therefore this issue should be taken seriously in order to assure the sector’s good performance.

Following the above-mentioned and recognised findings, it can be concluded and summarised that proper finance has a significant impact on private school success. The availability of assets and their expansion are frequently used to assess the performance of these schools.

Buildings, equipment, and laboratory facilities are examples of assets that cannot be purchased without capital. For example, if capital is borrowed to obtain these assets,

it must be repaid along with the accrued interest, and if not properly applied, can lead to financial strangulation and eventually bad debt, resulting in an inability to provide additional assets and, as a result, a reduction in performance in due course.

As a result, the research will strive to critically investigate the funding objective on the performance of private schools while also proposing solutions based on the reviewed objective or findings.

1.3 SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY.

This research is critical because it will primarily benefit and feed answers to the proprietor of the school, teachers, students, and the ministry of education on the burning subject of why private schools take the lead and head in the Nigerian educational endeavour. Is the solution actually funding?

If so, is this funding genuinely accountable for private school performance? As of recently, the vast majority of students seen clearing national and international examinations are from privately run institutions.

The significance of this work will not be limited to the vital point concerning the effects of funding on the performance of private schools, but will also touch on vital areas such as how these private schools source and apply their funds,

as well as how those sourced and applied funds affect the performance of these private schools, as a case study will be taken from Queens comprehensive schools, Providence High School, and Genesis International School, all of which are located in Enugu state.

According to the solution, the significance of this study will be centred mostly on the following specified beloved:

What would happen if the private school’s school fees were raised to generate revenue to fund the performance of the private schools, or if the school costs were cut to attract more students?

What would happen to the performance of a private school if there was a drop in its service; financial backwardness and strangling, bad debt and unquestionable debt, most students quitting the school, including others, would truly be considered if there is a reduction in its service.

To demonstrate whether private-sector-driven education is a force to be reckoned with.
It would also demonstrate that private schools might obtain funding from alternative sources, such as private individuals, commercial banks, and so on.

1.4 DEFINITION OF TERMS

Certain terms were employed in this chapter one that may appear foreign to a layperson and inhibit the actual understanding of this study, but the researcher has included this element in the work over the course of the investigation.
