INTRODUCTION
1.0 Background of the Study
Job life is a vital aspect of our everyday lives that can generate a great lot of stress. Because of the competitive nature of the employment environment, the majority of people in the globe spend their time on job-related tasks, disregarding or affecting stress in their work and lives.
Typically, people are more concerned with the outcome of their work, which might influence how they treat others and communicate with their peers and clients.
People react to stress in various ways, with some coping far better than others and experiencing fewer of the negative impacts of stress. Certain vocations are more stressful than others.
Stress symptoms or results can manifest in a variety of ways at work. A increasing body of studies indicates that certain persons in a variety of occupations/levels of job-related stress (Schultz and Schultz, 2002).
Stress is a word derived from the Latin word “Stringere,” which means to draw tightly.
1.1 Statement of Problem
Organisations continue to encounter a variety of management issues that stem from occupational stress, including:
i. function ambiguity occurs when an individual lacks knowledge regarding the requirements of his or her function, how those requirements are to be accomplished, and the evaluating processes available to guarantee that the role is being done successfully.
ii. Poor work connection.
iv. Demand related to family and money
IV. Unfair remuneration
v. Role conflict.
vi. Pressure derived from workload
vii. Rapidly changing technology, increasing the pressure on the workforce to produce maximum production and enhance competitiveness.
viii. Working circumstances, including shift and weekend schedules, work hours, discrimination, and workplace safety
1.2 The significance of the research problem and the justification for investigating it.
The research study will be of considerable value and usefulness to factory workers’ organisations, as well as the general public, who will benefit from the work done on this project. The study is worthwhile because its conclusions will benefit society, organisations, students, lectures, and individuals in the following works:
(i.) The findings will help to educate the public on how to deal with stress effectively.
(ii.) Individual employees will also understand how to manage stress positively, such as when to be stressed and when to be enthusiastic.
(iii.) Organisations, particularly key staff, will know what to do to assist employees who are stressed.
(iv.) The organisation will recognise that stress management must be managed by professionals.
(v.) The recruitment and selection process will be handled with great care and expertise.
The second chapter of this study will mostly focus on a literature review. The study’s goal is to focus on the learned submissions of certain renowned authors on the stress issue in an organisation.
Their various points of view will be reviewed, and comments will be made on each chapter. The third chapter of the study will focus on the summary, conclusion, and recommendations.
1.3 Relevant Research Questions
The research questions used for this project are:
· Is there a relationship between stress and job satisfaction?
· Does stress impact industrial workers’ job performance?
1.4 Scope of the Study
The primary goal of the research is to investigate the impact of stress on job satisfaction among industrial workers.
The limits are that some people are unaware they are experiencing stress since they are accustomed to their normal employment. Others refuse to adapt in order to adjust their schedules because they are terrified of the consequences. Some people are unsure how to deal with stress and its effects.
1.5 Limitations of the Study
The study will focus on factory workers from organisations in the Lagos metropolis.
· Inadequate time
· Respondent’s financial mindset.
· Other research challenges include obtaining primary data from the company and receiving lukewarm responses from respondents who completed the questionnaire on time.
1.6 Purpose of the Study
Stress is something that every employee experiences, thus it is not an issue that should be taken lightly; rather, the research is primarily intended at determining the various types of stress experienced by workers. It will also look at how stress affects employee performance, turnover, and absenteeism.
The study’s purpose could be itemised as follows:
(i.) Critically explore the concept of stress and its effects on employee performance.
(ii.) Determine the sources of stress faced by the worker.
(iii.) To identify and investigate effective stress management strategies inside an organisation.
1.8 Definition of Terms
(i.) Stress: Stress is the wear and tear that our bodies endure as they adjust to a constantly changing environment.
(ii.) Stress Management: This refers to the numerous efforts used to control and alleviate tension in stressful situations.
(iii.) Employee: This is a skilled or unskilled worker who is expected to make a financial contribution and is employed for some sort of compensation.
(iv.) Work Environment: This refers to the organisational structure of the workplace, which has a significant impact on the employee.
(v.) Performance: This refers to the degree of effectiveness in utilising industrial facilities, particularly labour and materials.
(vi.) Destructive Stress: This type of stress has a negative impact on both the individual and the organisation.
