FEMINIST PERSPECTIVE ON THE DILEMMA OF THE GIRL CHILD IN AFRICAN CULTURE

Abstract

This study looks at the challenge that the girl child faces in African culture, as well as the fundamental issues that confront her existential being. It investigates the unequal treatment of girls in male-dominated societies such as Africa, as well as the harmful impacts on their femininity.

As a means of restoring the dignity of the girl child and positioning her for a better life, emphasis is placed on the feminist approach and how it can be used to combat the various exploitative and unjust treatment that most African societies subject the girl child to in the name of custom and tradition.

Since the language of feminism flows well with the goal of this research, efforts will be made to extract some of its rational ideals and principles that prioritise fair treatment of the girl-child.

To accomplish this aim, the study will employ analytic and critical methods to assess feminist ideas on the predicament of the girl child in African culture.
