ABSTRACT
This study focuses on the effectiveness of physical distribution at Nigeria Bottling Company (NBC). The primary goal of this research is to identify the physical distribution activities of Nigeria Bottling Company goods in the Enugu city and analyse whether these activities are carried out as intended.
To analyse the current level of physical distribution system with the only purpose of determining its efficiency, as well as to evaluate the kind of market coverage on which physical distribution of Nigeria Bottling Company products is focused.
Also, they want to know if their items are delivered to customers on schedule and in sufficient quantities. This study involved the collection of both primary and secondary data.
The primary data for this study were gathered from Coca-Cola employees, dealers, and consumers, while secondary data were sourced from reputable local and overseas textbooks, periodicals, and journals, as well as relevant previous comparable initiatives.
To give a basic understanding of how physical distribution operations are carried out, the research approaches used for data gathering were questionnaires and observations.
The acquired data was treated and analysed using tables, frequencies, and percentages, as well as the top-man formula and the Z-test statistical approach to calculate the sample size and test the hypothesis of this study,
respectively. The study of the data received through the questionnaires distributed and collected revealed a number of discoveries, including:
· Coca-Cola has high demand in Enugu metropolis.
· Customers are dissatisfied with current physical distribution services.
· Coca-Cola products are not provided to all necessary locations at the appropriate time and amount.
· Employees at Nigeria Bottling Company receive customer concerns.
Finally, the researcher provided recommendations based on the findings and the numerous data presented. The recommendations included the following:
· Nigeria Bottling Company should maintain high-quality products to increase market share.
To address the initial issue of locating suitable distribution outlets, Nigeria Bottling Company should focus on improving its physical distribution infrastructure to serve a larger number of customers effectively.
· Nigerian Bottling Company could increase customer storage facilities to boost sales.
· Nigeria Bottling Company’s sales vehicle should be serviced regularly to prevent breakdowns and provide uninterrupted delivery services. This will help to reduce the number of complaints from customers.
To summarise, based on the findings and recommendations presented, Nigerian Bottling Company and other companies should have a high potential for growth and increased
profitability if they can work to improve their physical distribution system in order to better satisfy their current and potential customers. They should also ensure that the salespeople are competent and efficient in their physical distribution efforts.
