BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY
INTRODUCTION
Elections are the next logical sure thing in every democracy after death and taxes. Nigeria, a 1914 merged nation, obtained independence in 1960, became a republic in 1963, fought a civil war from 1965 to 1970, had coups and counter-coups, restored to civil rule, but remains plagued by electoral malpractices.
Nigeria’s union was a spiritual attempt by British masters to promote administrative convenience, economic maximisation, and political togetherness.
Nigeria held its first election in September 1922. The Clifford constitution was responsible for introducing the elected idea. Since the first election, it has been suggested. Nigeria has not been short of voting irregularities.
The real question is why are Nigerian election outcomes so contentious. The explanation is straightforward: it is all about malpractice. Politics has been described as the sum of all activities related with a country’s governance.

An election is a formal decision-making process in which a population, people, or electorate selects an individual or individuals to represent them in government. STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM
This study investigates the extent to which electoral malpractices and voting patterns influenced the outcome of the 2015 governorship election in Abia states.
OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY
The following objectives were established for the purposes of this study:
(i) Determine the extent of electoral tampering and tribal emotions during the election.
(ii) Determine the impact of bribing electoral officers on election outcomes.
(iii) To propose solutions to ensure free and fair elections in Abia State.
SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY
This research work will be a useful document for future investigations, making it a valuable tool. Furthermore, this research will provide a framework for dealing with the issues of electoral malpractical voting patterns in Abia State and Nigeria as a whole. If the ideas made are followed, it will be a huge help to government personnel when making decisions about electoral crimes.
SCOPE AND ORGANISATION OF THE STUDY
The objective of this study was electoral malpractices and voting patterns in Nigeria: a cause-and-effect analysis of the 2015 governorship election in Abia-States. It investigates how election fraud and voting patterns influenced the election outcome as proclaimed by the independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
This study is divided into four sections, the first of which is the background of the study, which includes an introduction, statement of the problem, aims of the study, significance of the study, scope, and organisation of the investigation.
Section two focuses on the subject’s literature assessment, theoretical framework, and conceptual concerns. Section three also focuses on qualitative analysis.
This section is divided into three sections: review of electoral malpractices and voting patterns in the 2015 Abia Governorship election, assessment/findings of the election outcome, and finally. Section four focuses on the Summary, Recommendation, and Conclusion.
