ENHANCING THE PERFORMANCE OF CO-OPERATIVE SOCIETIES THROUGH THE APPLICATION OF CO-OPERATIVE PRINCIPE AND LEGISLATIONS

ABSTRACT
The researcher researched the issue “enhancing the performance of co-operative societies through the application of co-operative principles and legislation” (A case study of co-operative societies in Orhonmwm local government area of Edo state).

As part of this endeavour, the researcher organised the study into five chapters.

The cheaper one includes the introduction, background of the study, purpose of this study, research question, relevance of the study, statement of the problem, scope and limitation of the investigation, hypotheses and definition of the study, hypothesis and definition of words.

Some of the objectives include:

– Assessing the application of cooperative principles and legislation in L.G.A cooperative societies. Identify the existing cooperative principles and legislations applicable to the societies in the orhionmwm local government region, e.g.

The second chapter deals with a review of previous related literature.

The third chapter describes the research strategy and methods, as well as data sources such as primary and secondary.
Primary sources include oral interviews, observations, and questionnaires

whereas secondary sources include previous research, textbooks, and collaborative records, among other things. Chapter three also covered the study’s population/area, sample size, sampling process, and data analysis method, among other topics.

Chapter four focuses on data presentation, analysis, and interpretation. The data obtained was presented in tabular form, and percentages were employed for the analysis.

The fifth chapter discusses the research findings, recommendations, and conclusions. The primary findings of this study work are as follows:

• The majority of societies do not genuinely follow cooperative principles and legislation, but simply have part of them written in their bylaws, etc.

The study found that cooperative officials are not effectively implementing cooperative principles and legislation. The researcher concludes that cooperative officers and secretaries must apply cooperative principles and legislation due to a lack of knowledge. Based on this conclusion, the researcher makes the following recommendation.

The government should provide enough cooperative education to existing members, explaining the cooperative principles and legislation.

• The cooperative leaders should also be committed about their responsibilities, and the researcher suggested that cooperative members cultivate a cooperative attitude within themselves.

The researcher concluded that cooperative societies cannot exist or function without the application of cooperative principles and legislation.
