Entrepreneurial Competencies Required For Engaging Retirees In Small And Medium Scale Businesses In Cross River State, Nigeria
ABSTRACT
The goal of this study was to look into the entrepreneurial skills required to engage seniors in small and medium-sized firms. The study used a descriptive survey research design. The survey included 11,698 retirees from Cross River State. A multistage sampling strategy was used for the study. The study’s sample size was 1,169 retirees.
The data collection tool was a structured questionnaire consisting of 61 items labelled “entrepreneurial competencies required for engaging retirees in small and medium-sized businesses for sustainable community development.”
Modelled on a 4-point rating scale with options for Strongly Agree (SA), Agree (A), Disagree (D), and Strongly Disagree (SD), with numerical values of 4, 3, 2, and 1 assigned to responses. Three professionals validated the instrument.
Crobach’s alpha was utilised to determine the instrument’s internal consistency reliability, which was 0.721. The acquired data was analysed using mean and standard deviation for research questions, and t-test statistics were employed to analyse hypotheses at the 0.05 level of significance using the Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS).
The findings show that some small and medium-sized firms and entrepreneurial competencies essential for retiree involvement are not accepted, while others are.
As a result, it is proposed that more small and medium-sized firms be developed and established, along with the necessary capabilities for retiring entrepreneurs.
