ABSTRACT
Air quality is one of Nigeria’s top environmental problems. In Nigeria, where the majority of the rural population utilises charcoal, little is known about the effects of the fuel’s life cycle on the livelihoods of the producers, who face considerable health, safety, and environmental risks for a small profit in a highly lucrative sector.
Population growth and deviations from the energy ladder model indicate that charcoal demand for heating and cooking in Sub-Saharan Africa will continue to rise until 2030 and beyond.
An air monitoring program can help the charcoal production business meet its environmental and community responsibilities. Industry performance monitoring allows industrial plants to be maintained in an environmentally responsible manner.
A survey of air quality in a charoal manufacturing site, Amukpe sapele, and its surroundings in Nigeria’s Niger delta area revealed that industrial activities at the production site have an impact on air quality to varied degrees.
This paper provides a brief background to the study, the state of the problems, the goals and objectives of the work done, the scope of the research, and the significance of the work done in terms of the analysis of emissions produced by a charcoal producing plant located in Amukpe Sapele Delta State.

Furthermore, the findings show that there is a high concentration of contaminants in the immediate environment. It is advised that charcoal producers in Amukpe Sapele use proper PPE and adhere to WHO rules and recommendations to manage and limit emissions.
