ABSTRACT
In most civilizations throughout history, notably in Nigeria, violence against women or domestic violence has been a severe issue, and it is pervasive on women. This is especially true in Nigeria. Because of this, the majority of this effort would be centered on women. Domestic violence affects women in Nigeria regardless of age, socioeconomic class, religious affiliation, or social standing. This is similar to the situation in other countries of the globe.
Intimate partner violence, and specifically physical violence, is quite widespread among people living in both developed and developing nations. Scratching, shoving, yelling, slapping, shaking, and choking are all examples of forms of physical violence, but they are not the only ones. Physical violence is defined as the purposeful use of physical force that has the potential to cause death.

INTRODUCTION
In addition to the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) and other international documents that Nigeria has ratified, the constitution of Nigeria itself prohibits violence against women. The clause in section 42 of the Nigeria constitution protects the right to be free from discrimination on the basis of sex for all Nigerian citizens, including women. However, violence against women continues unabated and unchecked, and this is blamed on the loopholes in our laws, some of which undermine the provision for equality in the constitution. Section 34 also guarantees every citizen the right to the dignity of the human person, which in it subsection (a) it forbids torture and inhuman or degrading treatments, and subsection (b) it forbids the subjection of anybody to slavery or servitude. However, violence against women continues unabated and unchecked
Many women in our culture are subjected to harsh treatment at the hands of their intimate relationships, but they keep their pain to themselves. The deaths of these women may sometimes be attributed to incidents of domestic abuse. Because women are essential to the expansion and development of any country as well as the globe as a whole, this should not be permitted to continue in its current form. They are the people who take care of their families, the keepers of the social, cultural, and basic values of the society, and many times it is through them that lasting change may be accomplished most effectively. Without their comprehension, collaboration, and active engagement, it is impossible to grow the community to its full potential. When all of these factors are considered, it is clear that women deserve better treatment; nonetheless, the contrary is often the case. Wife battering has negative effects not only on the physical and mental health of the battered women but also on the health of the woman’s children. The meaning of domestic violence against women, the many forms of intimate partner violence, and the repercussions of these forms of violence on battered women and their children are all topics that are covered in this article, which is based on the assumption stated above. The reasons of domestic violence against women are investigated, as well as possible solutions to the problem. In conclusion, several suggestions were provided for eliminating this threat from the community.
